Share Your Labor Day Woes With Me

Got slammed as soon as the doors opened, ran out of clean cocktail glasses before I could even prep garnishes, made a frozen mojito attempt for the first time in my career today, and over 50 green tea shots for a single party before our lunch special was over 😊

Worked 52 hours between Thursday and tonight, including a clopen Saturday into Sunday brunch. Sent our third bartender home tonight and got rekt an hour before close. My back hurts and my dog just wants to play with me. Have the next two days off, but I have to move. I feel you friend. Hope it was lucrative.

Had one of the owners friends scream at me, take photos of me (to apparently show the owners) and tell me he’s going to get me fired, because I was following a rule that his buddy, the owner, put In place 🤦🏼‍♀️

Fuck that you deserve better. The owner is a shit if he had such shitty friends

It’s also our anniversary weekend (we’re their 2nd location and only other location) and we did not see the owners at all but their friends made sure to be known p

There’s always “friends” of the owners. And then there’s friends of the owners. Usually real friends will be awesome people who tip well. If you hear nothing of this then they’re just idiots who met the owner once and were trying to intimidate you. Old story. If your owner is cool, you know those “guests” ARE that. Because a cool owner wouldn’t have friends coming in throwing their name around as a threat.

Started my shift at 4 and closed the kitchen at 6 for hood cleaning. Super dead ass night as I knew it would be. Told the few customers I had I was closing at 8. At 8 o’clock one of my least favorite creeper customers comes in with a big ass group of his friends to celebrate the last day at his job. Stayed open until 10 and not really sure it was worth my while. One of my other regulars did however make up for it. But it came with the screw your boyfriend marry me comments.

I actually had the day off, for the first time in years. It was weird- I tried to go to the pharmacy, but it was closed.

Request days off, folks.

While trying to civilly keep an aggressive local homeless man from storming into the bar, I was thrown into one of our patio tables. Fuck this job sometimes. Also, this would’ve been quite avoidable with a security person, I know. Cuz reason, we don’t.

Our open mic host brought belligerent drunk friends out of dress code and she started a fight with one of our regulars, a server quit in the middle of a busy Saturday night shift leaving me and the other bartender to bartend and serve the entire place plus the patio (cigar bar so lots of guests outside), another server showed up too drunk to work and subsequently got fired so I'm scheduled 60 hours this week as a result.

Going back to work in 4 hours.

I spent actual Labor Day at my second job where I worked lunch. I took point (aka made drinks for the large patio out front and took guests at the bar).

Despite it being very busy, I crushed it and I think proved to my teammates that I'm worth keeping around when it eventually slows down come winter.

Grand total of 15 people at the bar all morning... and I picked the shift up. Luckily it was a few regulars that took good care of me

Down two bartenders starting the Thursday prior. Just two of us left to cover all weekend. Got absolutely crushed all day everyday. I closed and the other guy opened everyday. Felt bad for him (our opens are longer hours) so I sent him home early on Sunday. An hour after he was gone my entire bar was filled, 47 seats. I wasn’t in the weeds I was out in the jungle lol. I put my head down and did my best. All the patrons were super cool and even got some compliments on how well I was handling everything. The Tips were reflective of that too so at the end of the day it was all good.

We’re a military town so it’s actually pretty slow.

Is a frozen mojito even something that should be served? I had someone order one once and told them I would not make it for them (definitely bad bartending but the place sucked too and it was a bad shift) because it would compromise the integrity of the drink lmao. Not saying that’s what you should’ve done in this instance at all considering how in the weeds you were, just genuinely curious if it’s like “okay” to serve a frozen mojito in the opinions of bona fide bartenders (which I would not consider myself to be)?
