Some weapons self-inflict poison/burn...

Isn't that a bit counter-productive? I'm looking at the Blood Levania right now and his weapon, although strong, it self-inflicts burn. How important is this? Although it has high atk, crit, and multipliers to sort of make up for the burn, I don't know how to weigh the benefit vs the detriment.

There is also a 4-star dark spear that self-inflicts poison & I know I wont use that one because I think the other dark spear is better anyways. But the Blood Levania I like him he looks strong... but I'm not so sure about having a weapon that hurts yourself.

The only use I can think of this is to use it with characters that have abilities that make them deal more damage if they have a status effect for examble abstract fio. Other than that I can't think of anything else

Free 4* Argo likes that spear.

some characters have skills that increase in damage when you have a negative effect, also doesn't levania do more damage when at low health? I know some characters have this ability

only the abstract levania. bloodless levania doesn't so it is weird that he would have it

There's Argo also, he is toxic.

Poison and burn aren’t particularly inhibiting unless a character has a bold vigor passive.

Weapons with these weapon skills normally make up for it with massive multipliers rivaling character skills.

There are conditionals that benefit from status afflictions and health percentages. Some characters or weapon skills do more damage based on these.

It's not like this is out of left field either; there has been a memoir set (from launch) that drops your defense to boost your attack.

In my opinion, most of this game is a DPS race including PVP, so burn damage doesn't really mean much. I'm not sure if statuses can stack, but if they are mutually exclusive in their application being burned means a boss can't blind me which is a huge benefit.

Some characters also few more damage the less health they have

In addition to other posts I also find that those skills have high dmg modifiers

The weapons that inflict ailments like poison and burn on the caster are meant for specific characters that have a passive where they gain a large attack bonus if they're suffering from ailments or at/below a certain HP threshold. For example Akeha Two's Caged Vigor passive increases her attack by 30% when her HP is belo 60%.
