Dealership lost my title for my trade in. What do i do?

Traded my car in a month ago and now I’m getting calls from the dealer saying I never gave them the title. I know for a 100% fact I gave it to them that day. They lost my title and are now blaming me. What do I do next? What is going to happen?

You know for a 100% fact you gave it to them, they know for a 100% fact you didn't. Who's right and who cares?

Sign the form authorizing them to apply for a duplicate title and move on with life. Not everything has to turn into a pissing match.

This could be his chance to see the secret invoices and you’re telling him to piss it away.

For real. Why is this even a post it’s a single slip they needed you to sign if they had actually lost it

If you’re really nice they’ll even mail it to you

Just go in, sign the Power of Attorney to apply for a duplicate, and be done with it. We have a form to be signed if the title is missing at time of delivery for this exact reason.

Not a big deal, and just help them out by signing the document so they can get a duplicate

You should have signed something that allows them to request a duplicate. Otherwise you can do them a solid and request a duplicate title from the state.

Answer the calls from the people trying to call you and since a duplicate request and a POA.

You could file a ‘lost title’ claim. You would pay $50 and get a new title to your address. And you could try the process again then.

I saw your update but for those wondering

The correct answer is that it varies per state For most people where the dealership definitely lost the title, the dealership should be responsible for paying any fees to replace the title as once you do the paperwork it shouldn't be your burden anymore
