When to push a tower/leave it up and deny?

Brought up in this thread it seems there are times when it is better to deny. It would seem to me that this would only be the case when the enemy team has late game hypercarries, but I have never seen a written opinion on this before. Thoughts?

I think it depends. If Nasus is top you probably don't want to push the turret too quickly since he can free farm at his second turret. I heard on a stream that mid lane should be pushed quickly because it gives your team more access to the enemy jungle. They also said you shouldn't push bot so you have a better chance at shutting down their AD carry with ganks, while at the same time ensuring you can farm because the enemy can't freeze the creep line at their second turret.

Generally bot doesn't want to push down the turret since farm is so important. Top (baring exceptions) wants to push down the turret so they can roam.

I disagree, if you can drop the bottom tower I find 2 things happen.

  1. Dragon is much much easier to control (super important)
  2. Enemy jungle is easier to invade (true on top as well, but you must use this).

At this point you must do one of two things.

  1. ward enemy jungle really well, steal it and continue to farm your lane.
  2. Group up and force teamfights (i.e. try to drop mid tower) and use your advantage.

If you cannot do one of the above, then I find denying to be better but I believe the real difference is that in solo queue it's so hard to communicate with your team about what you're going to do that it's just easier to not drop the tower. Honestly about the only times you can really type much are when you're dead or running to another lane.

Depends. As bot you want to keep it as long as possibel to farm. As Mid it depends on your mid and if you can push it alone. As top most of the time you want to push it and start roam around. But as mention some farm Tops like Nasus or Irelia may want to keep the tower to farm up. But in general thin about if you can get more if you leave it up or if you push it. Early most of the time you will get more of leaving it up.

When farming more is more beneficial to you because you're winning in CS by a large margin (i.e. 20-30~ CS), leave it up.

If it would be more beneficial for you to shove a lane to the inner turret, and roam around because teamfights or map objectives can happen, kill the turret.

Pre 6, it's generally a bad idea to push down any tower.

Post 6, the solo lanes should consider pushing down their tower. Middle especially for the map control (you gain 1 entrance to each of the opponent's jungles when you clear mid tower). Top tower going down depends on the game situation. If you are farmed enough to roam, then consider pushing down top. If not, or you would prefer to shut down the opposing top lane's farm through zoning, then leave it up. Note, though, that pressuring top tower is a really good form of dragon control so once you pushed their tower down you lose that option until you can pressure their inner turret.

Bot tower being pushed leads to midgame for the team that destroyed it, as they start to take more objectives around the map as a team with the damage of their AD carry.

Elaborate on the Pre-6? This is because...?

You're most likely going to roam after you take down your tower, and generally you're more useful as a roamer when you have your ult.

You also need to keep in mind that once you start roaming you run the risk of falling behind in farm since you aren't sitting in lane soaking up creep xp and last hitting. Additionally, if you go hang out in another lane you will start soaking up their xp and gold, which can be harsh for someone who was having a hard time in their lane to begin with. Better to leave your tower up, roam for a gank, then head back and let them farm to catch up.

It's also bad to take your turret early if you have someone who can roam for ganks, like Morgana or Ahri, or someone like Nasus or Irelia who will just freeze the lane behind their second turret and farm for 20 minutes, then come out and go beast mode on everyone. Alternatively, if you're having a hard time in lane you can just take the turret early to make your opponent more susceptible to ganks.

Thanks, this is pretty much what I was going to say.

Its all about objectives and your teams plan, if your team is ready to start pushing objectives, making things happen or is doing so already, push down your tower. If they are still farming with just dragon fights then you should leave it up
