My oldest daughter is 5, and our pediatrician is on the ball. Basically just an endless stream of 5-12s getting vaccinated this weekend with all staff on deck and all rooms working.

She has a history of anaphylaxis food allergies, so I was a little nervous during the 15 minute reaction wait period, but no issues.

I got Pfizer back when I got mine too, and I agree! It was a surprisingly small needle.

Hell yeah brother! My older eligible two went to the mass vax site on Friday morning, first day available in our county.

My anecdote about the small needle is that when i was getting my second Pfizer, I was distracted by the person filling out my card and didn't even notice the jab until they told me I could go to the observation room. I told my boys that it would hurt less than the flu shot they got a month ago.

My son was fine with shots until his 4 year exam, one of them caused him a lot of pain, he couldn't even put his shirt after. He has been scared of shots since then. He got his flu shot a couple weeks ago and that went semi-well though. Hopefully we can get him this soon without too much trouble. He did get ice cream in return for doing the flu shot, so maybe that will work again.

It’s really weird how that fear of shots works, she didn’t mind shots (and even quite a number of blood draws!) at all either for the first few years. But at some point that anticipation that it would be bad was there and I think that’s often worse for them than the shot itself.

When she had anaphylaxis I administered the epi pen and thankfully she was much too young to remember that because the needle is a goddamn beast compared to the Covid shot and it doesn’t go gentle.

Ice cream afterwards was also applied here!

Same, it's the TDAP, my kid just went through the exact same thing, couldn't sleep, wouldn't get dressed, etc...

I feel a little bad trying to reassure him pre-shot that it was no big deal, but he really was suffering for about 24 hours. I'm worried he is going to be terrified of shots now going forward.

My son is 2, since about 6 months shots have not been an issue at all, in fact he can't even tell he got a shot. But that's probably because anyone wearing scrubs is the scariest thing in the world, as in vomit inducing terror if someone comes up wearing scrubs, nothing worse than someone wearing scrubs. His last flu shot he started crying the second we stepped foot in the doctor's office, and stopped the second we started walking out.

Cannot wait for them to open it up for kids over 2. I know that study is ongoing. My kid turns 2 in June. She’ll be in line the moment they let her.

23†
spinfireOP•

Her little sister is 2, we are very eager for that moment when there are no more unvaccinated people in our house. By June I think it will definitely be approved for 2yo! Maybe even in a few months.

9†
Final_Alps•

Yeah. I am hopeful that by the time she’s 2 she can get the shot. We’re in Europe - EMA (our FDA) has been a couple months behind FDA in approving vaccines (5-11 decision coming early December), but keeping pace. So I remain hopeful.

It’s spreading like wildfire here in schools - hopefully opening up the queue to school aged kids helps.

You’re downvoted but you are right. My pediatrician said to wait since my kids are healthy and the jury is still out on the cost benefit to vaccinating kids for something that has all but disappeared in our area.

imagine citing your pediatrician and getting downvoted for it. sad world we living in right now

I'm used to it. You cannot say anything against the holy vaccine around here.

It’s funny that this shit bothers you guys so much. You’re so worried about other people. Live your life. Do what you want, or don’t want, and let other people do the same. It’s really not that difficult.

Reddit isn’t the real world. This post is pretty gross to me taking karma for shooting his kid up with something he probably doesn’t need.

Me and my daughter got vaxxed at the same time. AZ for me, Moderna for her.

Zero pain. You couldn't even see where the needle had gone in. My daughter told me "Daddy, the best way not to feel the needle is not to look when they inject you"

I had to laugh because this is exactly what I do anyway. She's completely unafraid, knows she has another shot in two weeks and is completely fine with it.

The only person in my family who had problems was my sister. Her skin DID turn red and she got a raised lump for two weeks. But after that she was fine too.

I'm overweight, 50 and have health problems so I was a but worried but got vaxxed anyway. Zero problems. I urge everyone to give it a shot.

I love that your kiddo “taught” you that, that’s so sweet and awesome.

I’m one of those weirdos who is like “no I wanna watch it!” when a nurse reminds me I can look away before a shot or blood draw as part of their normal instructions.

Congrats and enjoy the freedom!

I got my kiddo scheduled for Tuesday, and my booster right before his. Hopefully he sees how easy it is and doesn't worry but it could easily go the other way and blow up in my face. Haha

Technically no freedom till after the second dose right?

My younger daughter pointed to a picture of Gritty and said “daddy!” the other day. I’ll take that as a compliment kiddo.

Not to ruin it, but kids have died from adverse reactions from the Pfizer vaccine. I don't have a link to the site at the moment but this is the headline of the study.

No I didn't mean to. I just wanted you to be fully informed. It's a low risk either way from what I understand.

Would vaccine-related deaths be widely publicized?

suppress information that's demonstrably false.

how is it demonstrably false? They are just starting to vaccinate kids. I'd at least wait a few months. see if any hints of side effects start showing up in the 5-11 year olds.

If there is a 0.001% chance of a side effect from the vaccine, maybe not death, but some kind of side effect. and getting it is to stop the spread for the greater good for society? If that risk is anything but 0, I will not take that risk. My kids are my greater good, Sorry society.

https://rumble.com/vokrf7-sen.-johnson-expert-panel-on-federal-vaccine-mandates.html Its long, Ernest Ramirez at 1:18:00 hits me.

Any adverse reactions subsequent to the vaccine are required to be reported by healthcare providers in the US. I can’t speak for wherever you live if it’s not the US. They are tracked and widely publicized. Obviously not all reactions result in a visit to a healthcare provider but death is almost certainly one of them.

Myocarditis is about 40 times more likely after even a mild COVID infection than people who only received the vaccine. This means that if COVID is actually largely eradicated in your area then you can make a good statistical case to wait on the vaccine because the likelihood of COVID is so low.

However, we aren’t fortunate enough to live in such an area, and there remains a lot of community spread. The probability math here is pretty clear that if you are concerned about myocarditis you should get the vaccine rather than risk a COVID case, because the likelihood is so much lower.

Our town is setting up a clinic at a local school for two days, I was able to line up slots in on the second day, 11/17.

Really hoping this can lead to the kids’ school going maskless after the second shot, or in January if not sooner.

We're all just trying to survive out here. I'll trust someone who has studied medicine for a decade's opinion over someone who dropped of their first year English at a community college.

you're right, the government would surely never lie to you (tuskegee experiments), the pharma companies are definitely in it to help people (asbestos in baby powder) and doctors are never wrong (thalidomide)

cheers.

We had our son's first shot scheduled for tomorrow, and he came down with a high fever today. If he still has it in the morning we'll have to postpone. I'm super bummed. We have been looking forward to this for a year and a half. It'll come, but man it sucks to have to cancel tomorrow.

We are on the list to be called for a shot for my son. My wife really wants it done at the pediatricians office but we made one for next weekend at a local Walgreens . If we get it at the pediatricians office we will cancel the other one. This is a very busy pediatricians office and the list is pretty long. If it was up to me my son would have been vaccinated today.

I should have known better than to leave this up and open.

Are you a physician or scientific researcher? No? Then keep your opinion to yourself.

Are you adamant that every person healthy enough should get the vaccine? That's best kept to yourself.

This simply isn't the forum for the discussion.

You either like photo, up vote, and maybe comment, or you downvote and move on. And for Pete's sake, teach your kids to be kinder and more polite than you are.
