I've had an issue with my Pixel for years where text messages usually wouldn't make any notification sound. I finally recently discovered that it's due to an old "Google is muting some sounds" bug that Android has apparently had for years and Google marked the bug as "fixed" but never fixed it.

A lot of users have various work-arounds, but all the solutions seem to be old and refer to options and settings that no longer exist. What is the current work around for this bug?
