Daily roaming plans to the US vs Monthly Can/US plans (Telus)?
Now that the US is opening back up it's time to look into how to get fucked as gently as possible with phone roaming options for travel. Hopefully this is the right place for this question - turns out it doesn't belong in r/vancouver, and the r/canada rules directed me here.
My question that I couldn't find exact details about is whether it's worth it (or even possible) to upgrade a phone plan to one of the Can/US deals that permanently include US roaming and usage. For me (on Telus) this would be an extra $20 a month compared to my current plan. Which is less than a 3+ day trip using EasyRoam ($9 a day).
Math tells me that the permanent plan is worth it if I'll be in the US for 27 or more days a year, but I don't think that'll happen. But is it possible to upgrade my plan for just one month, go to the US for a couple of weeks (all for the extra $20 total), and then come back and downgrade my plan back to the original again? That seems like a massive loophole that you'd think they'd close, but I can't find any information suggesting I can't do that. I'm not under contract and apparently I can change my plan once per billing cycle, but this seems a bit too good to be true, yeah?
Has anyone here bounced back and forth between a normal Canada plan and a Can/US plan on Telus? Or are there other cellphone providers that let you do something like this?
And yes, I'll call Telus to ask at some point. And I've considered buying a SIM in the US but I don't want to do that as I want to keep using my Canadian number while I'm gone.
Thanks in advance for any responses. I'm in British Columbia BTW (stating as per the rules).

Not sure if this works but can you use an esim provider for roaming , then enable WiFi calling and disable your Canadian sim when you cross the border?
