Just binged the first 9 seasons. My thoughts.

Well that was a wild ride. I've had a lot of opinions during it but I'll try to keep it brief.

  1. There should be emotional therapy right from the start. All of these people seem to have some kind of trauma and I don't feel there should be any hesitation to get them into counselling. I would call this kind of weight gain a psychological problem more than a physical one.

  2. The Enabler=Dependent dynamic is bizarre and fascinating. The enablers have such a hard time not giving the dependents food and the dependents don't stop asking for it. Often times it seems that both parties are legit delusional about what, and how much, they are eating. Next I'm going to research enablers more since it seems so interesting.

  3. How do they afford so much food?! Some people were eating $50 of food a day without having a job. I've been through depressive episodes and binge eating myself but I would simply go broke eating like that.

  4. Megalomaniacs is an evil company. Having the people get naked to shower, not helping them when needed, editing things (poorly) to sensationalize the drama. It reeks of exploitative reality TV. I don't know any details of the lawsuits people have brought against them but it didn't surprise me to learn there have been so many.

  5. Dr. Now "gets mean" around season six. I'm certain this was due to editing and the production wanting to up the drama. Dr. Now seems like a good dude. Still, around season six he seems to start laying into people on their first visit to his office, right out of the gate. I don't like that.

  6. I was in tears for some of the episodes, others I was rooting against them. Some people had tragic lives and put serious effort into getting help. Others just liked to eat and be cared for. I won't go into that more because I don't want to be mean.

  7. Season 9 sucked hard. Did anyone even get surgery that season? Every episode seemed the same and most of the patients didn't even try to lose weight. Made for very boring television.

  8. After seeing Irene eat, I never want to look at a cheeseburger again.

Ok, that's it. Trust me, I could double this list but it is long enough already.
