  1. What is this garbage lazy reporting going to the billionaire businessman instead of actually talking to epidemiologists and researchers?
  2. Off-topic: not US politics.

Man who makes money selling apples says we need more apple pies!

Like why would he say anything else? Never mind efficacy and it’s actual need.

Instead of being angry about this, I’m just still so grateful for the protection these vaccines offer. Why do we have to be so negative? I’m sure Pfizer DOES love to make money, so what? They also saved a lot of lives. Everyone is just so bitter. I would get one every six months if it meant life could go back to normal.

3

Life will go back to normal when people demand it and a jab every six months is apparently what is required to keep up protection afforded from the present vaccine

The vaccine was developed using taxpayers' funds.

We had other options.

I talked to my Dr and she told me to hold off. That we don’t even know if it’s doing any good yet. So, that’s my plan, I’m gonna wait in see. But also, not old old, no pre-existing problems, vaccinated, still where my mask and distance. So, yeah, all that counts.

2
CallMeParagon:flag-ca: California•

The context is they think we may need it sooner than the projected 12 months - really nothing to be upset over at all, unless you’re some kind of anti-vax person.

2
Canadian_InfidelOP•

I'm anti needing to take two days off work to recover every six months. Whatever that stuff did to me the second time can't be good. I've had every shot ever especially for work. I've never had a side effect at all let alone being incapacitated.

0
CallMeParagon:flag-ca: California•

I just got the booster and had a sore arm for two days and no other side effects whatsoever. Also had mild reactions to first two vaccine doses and missed no work.

In any case, where are you getting six months? They just said less than 12.

2
Canadian_InfidelOP•

The 3rd one is six months. In Canada they want you to take jt even sooner now I think most people assume there will be a mandatory injections every 180 days. My system did not react well. Although the reaction to shot one was short lived. I would not need to miss work if that is all it was.

The second? My arm pit chest and back of shoulder swelled up to the point I couldn't wear a backpack for almost two weeks or carry anything with that arm. I work in the trades. The next day I felt like I drank a bottle of nyquil. I couldn't even pay attention to a movie I had to just shut it off and sleep. They said it was because my immune system was primed from the first for a stronger reaction since it had encoded that info already. I do not want to do that again. Let alone constantly forever.

CallMeParagon:flag-ca: California•

Thought we were talking about the 4th dose which is what your linked article is about. That one they expected to be given in 12 months, but now it could be sooner.

Sorry to hear you had such a strong reaction - it’s definitely a better option than getting a serious case of covid though.

This is very premature as we are still gathering data on this varient. We don't know how successful the 3 dose series will be against omnicron, it does seem to be incredibly effective at keeping cases very mild, and offers some immune protection. Almost seems to me the Pfizer CEO wants to sell more vaccines.

Hey, I know, lets take this new global need and add profit to the cost of it. Surely, that will make it cheaper.

And before you say anything stupid about profits and innovation, remember, profits are profits precisely because they weren't spent on innovation. Shareholders don't innovate. Neither do buybacks. Neither do managers for that matter.

But no, it's impossible for government employed scientist to do anything. It's always more expensive if you don't have a built in motive to make it more expensive.

The assumption should just be that everyone needs biannual covid boosters, indefinitely, just like you should get your Flu shot once a year. no big deal.

Yesterday Pfizer said it had a small study and found that the third booster shot gave the same protection against Omicron as the previous 2 against the other variants.

If this is true, why would I bother to get the fourth shot? And why would Pizer want us to get the fourth shot?

...small study....

They seem to be saying there might be a need to get boosters ready to be administered sooner, which is a process that will take time. A small study isn't enough to say for certain.

2
Ai00009•

This was how I read it (ok we have difference of opinion here):

I accept what he said, "We may need it faster', with a "may" in it..

But not what he said in another place, "And the second point, I think we will need a fourth dose", I believe that refers to Omicron. It gets confusing here, why some/I read that as he was saying we will need a fourth shot to deal with Omicron. Which would be a maybe at this point.

If the third shot is good enough, then we will need a forth shot not because of Omicron, but we would just be following our original plan. We may need a shot every year.

Sir__Will:flag-cn: Canada•

Of course he does. Dollar signs! Give me proof. Preferably third party proof. Now I am not saying boosters aren't eventually needed. But this CEO is not a scientist and is pushing things really hard.

k- lmk when that is the consensus of experts that *don't* profit from it directly.

If I am big pharma why would i create a single use soulution when i can keep them coming back every six months.

-4†
zablyzibly:flag-ca: California•

IDK about you but I'm motivated by not dying. I'm really not so principled that I'd refuse vaccination because Big Pharma BAD. Isn't that how all these people end up joining the Herman Cain club? It's still a rapidly mutating virus, of course boosters will be necessary.

13
Gong42•

You're right, better to not get vaccinated and chance death. That will show those greedy capitalists!

11
bananafobe•

Feel free to invent a single use vaccine that never needs a booster.

It has nothing to do with profits. The data shows that after x period of time the efficacy of the vaccines drops and boosting after 6-9 months offers same level of protection after your initial doses.

The virus continues to mutate as over 50% of the world population is not vaccinated and offers more challenges to existing vaccine efficacy.

My father got a bad case of Covid. His doctor told him that the odds are had he not been vaccinated, instead of 3 weeks very sick he would have been dead.

It does work very well. A case of Covid is almost always more severe when the patient is not vaccinated than if they are vaccinated.

It's like saying "I know plenty of people who wore a coat when they went outside in 15 degree weather! AND THEY STILL GOT COLD!!!"

Yeah, well, the people who didn't wear coats fucking froze to death.

Clearly you got no idea what you are talking about. Unvaccinated are at several folds more risk for death/hospitalization compared to vaccinated people.

The whole purose of the vaccine is to mitigate symptoms and prevent hospitalization which they are very effective at. Early on they also lowered/prevented Covid spread but then it muted into Delta and now Omicron which negated that ability.
