Psyshock versus Psychic on Alakazam for a Nuzlock

Help

I’m doing my first Nuzlocke for SP, and I’m planning on having Alakazam for the Elite 4. I’m planning on having Psychic/Psyshock, Grass Knot, Shadow Ball, and maybe Focus Blast. But I can’t decide between Psychic and Psyshock for my STAB move.

Most of what Alakazam is good against have high physical defense but on the other hand, the few things that don’t would benefit from having someone like Alakazam who is fast. And it still uses my Special Attack stat so it should still hit hard regardless.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which I should go with, Psychic or Psyshock?

Psychic for it’s 10 base power over Psychock. Could mean life or death. They have the same PP anyway.

Focus Blast is risky though. Not because of it’s debuff, but that 70 accuracy, even 90 moves can miss a lot, which would get Alakazam absolutely rekt. That type coverage is amazing though, so be sure to pick up Wide Lens.

Having Wide Lens was also part of the plan but I need to check to see if I can get it before the Elite 4. Seems like most people are against Psyshock and Focus Blast though so I will probably let them both go.

It’s up to you. Again, Fight has really good coverage. Only offensive alternative would be Dazzling Gleam, for Dragon and Dark.

I also find Dazzling Gleam to be better than Focus Blast for Alakazam. Takes care of dark types.

Just focus blast is fighting type wich is also super effective against dark.

Yes but focus blast is less accurate, so dazzling gleam is more dependable bc Alakazam is a glass cannon so he’s dead if he misses. There was no mistake.

Thanks all. I think I will keep Psychic and skip Focus Blast since it is so inaccurate. So I have Psychic, Dazzling Gleam and Grass Knot. Any ideas for the last move?

Shadow ball, grass knot, psyshock. Depending on what the rest of your team has coverage for.

I run Magic Guard zam with life orb (you won’t get that item or hidden ability til post game though I don’t think)

Yeah, probably. In Sword I’ve got one too with basically that same setup. But it’s a lot harder to get such a perfect one in SP and I wasn’t doing a Nuzlocke there either.

I’d say bring both instead of focus blast as it’s so inaccurate and alakazam is so frail.

I was thinking about that too. Focus Blast seems to be a staple but maybe that’s more in real competitive.

Yeah for sure. You could easily miss twice and Alakazam would be gone forever.
