As Dragon Coast kobold, when do you reform out of tribe?

Discussion

Many of my runs have been negatively impacted by the lack of estates bonuses, but the juicy 40% land maintenance makes me stall reforming.

What are your thoughts?

When you finish the basic mission tree, there is an event to choose either the Dragon or the Artificer path.

After you make that decision, there is a short delay, and then you get an event to either become a Theocracy(for Dragon Path) or a Republic (for Artificer path). It’s non negotiable, so either way you won’t be a tribe.

I suggest waiting for this event, as it will allow you to save reform progress, unlike the conventional way of tribes reforming.

No longer entirely correct. A while back the events in question were changed so that you can choose to keep your existing government, it just take a hit to legitimacy/horde unity/devotion/republican tradition (the events also happen 10 years after the choice, so not that short a delay).

Conventional tribe reform, due to tribe penalties, makes it functionally impossible for monstrous nations to reform a normal government before the game is more or less over.

I stay tribal until events make me non-tribal: those land maintenance modifiers are too useful
