I hate poetry

Poetry makes me want to die.

Every dramatic pause. Sigh.

I roll my eyes. Saliva flies

From your mouth as you read

Why so angry? What’s the need?

It’s just naval gazing shit.

“BANG”, You shout. I blink.

I slump and I start to think

What’s next? A metaphor, maybe?

Your life is not a poem, baby.

Your problems are not stanzas.

~ a poem to myself

Wow, I love this, you did a really great job and it's so interesting and thought-provoking because of it going against its own words. It's like in society when you hate a way something is done but you can't help but partake in it and be the problem yourself.

Thankyou!! Yes, exactly. You got the frustration! Yay I’m so pleased

Oh, hi there; didn't see you! You've reached r/OCPoetry. This is a workshop site where you can share, read, and talk about eachother's poetry & etc. To post your own poems, you need to give feedback to 2 other writers. If you aren't trying to share, you're encouraged to give feedback, but aren't required. Try to be nice, questioning, and specific. If you can't do that - eat a cabbage and come back later. This is a really interesting poem! I never would have thought about a poem about how much you hate poetry, so definitely points for creativity. The only thing is, I'm a little confused as to why the person reading the poem gets angry and shouts "BANG." It seems to come out of nowhere. But your rhyme scheme is great! And I thought it was interesting how you ended the poem with a line that didn't rhyme. Keep sharing your poems!

Thankyou!!

So the reader is listening to someone reading a poem (myself) and I like to use onomatopoeia a lot and rather than put the word “onomatopoeia” in it, I thought it would be easier to just use it.

Thankyou! The 6th line doesn’t rhyme with anything and then the 11th (last line) doesn’t either.

I might change the bang line and try and add an extra line in to make it 12 total.

Thankyou for your feedback 😊 I genuinely do have a love/hate thing with poetry. I find it really cringe but writing it makes me a happier person 😂

Surprisingly well-written, given the subject :P

I really liked the "BANG" line, I assumed it was a particularly dramatic part of the poem being read, and the narrator's lackluster response was amusing. I liked the end as well, the last three lines have a great flow, and of course "What's next, a metaphor, maybe?" running straight into an egregious metaphor (or is it an anti-metaphor?) is hilarious.

Yay! You understood! I’m so pleased!

The exhaustion with myself and poetry 😂

Thankyou thankyou!

I love the piece. Very meta. Particularly liked the way you set up your POV within the first two lines with the ironic sigh, signifying your dramatic pause.

I envisioned it like a poem being voiced over a slow-mo of a classic poem being recited.

I think that sentence brings your piece into life. Rightfully short because of the abruptness of the thought you're conveying. A Fleeting whisper of a feeling, when you're watching everyone in awe of a poem being recited I suppose. (Maybe, that's just how I interpreted it)

I loved it. If poetry beckons again please write :)

Love this! Absolutely gorgeous! And the fact that it rhymes has me dying for more. And it's not pretentious I can feel the frustration and emotions that drove your writing.

Oooh I’m intrigued you don’t think it’s pretentious! As I think of myself as pretentious when I write poetry and that’s kind of what I was going for 😂 but I love that you don’t think it is. Thanks for your kind words
