I don't really know much about card grading and worth, but I happened to stumble upon my FILs card collection today...so I guess I have to learn now.

Wow, these are breathtaking! It’s always a joy to see vintage in this good of condition.
Unless he’s looking to sell these immediately, I’d recommend waiting another six to eight months to send these in for grading. With PSA catching up on submissions, there’s a chance we’ll see a $50+/- option in the coming months.
If sent into PSA right now, he’s looking at around $2500 to get these all graded. SGC is a great alternative, but they seem to grade vintage a little harder, and the resell value is less than with PSA, at least in my own experience.
Regardless of what the final plan is for these cards, the process is going to be a blast! It really is a beautiful collection!

Send to Sgc to get them slabbed and an idea on what they might grade at PSA. Then send to psa the ones worth it.

That’s money right there. Most of the cards look to be in great shape.

My understanding of grading seems to be this.
- Ungraded, you can sell these and buy a new car.
- Graded, you can sell these and buy a new house.

I don't know about a house or even a car..most valuable card there is the Mantle which would go for around $800 in PSA 6. Some others in $300-$400 (Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax). Others (including embossed) lower. Less than $10,000 for the lot even if graded.

I expected them to be worth more considering what people pay for some of the new stuff.

Great looking cards. No need to grade them unless he/you want to sell. Just put them in some one-touch holders.

Amazing. If I had these, I would keep the best copy of each 65 and 66 and sell the others. Then I'd use the money to complete the 65 and 66 sets.

Take some time. Make sure you hit your LCS for supplies- don’t bring the cards :)
