What are your favorite little moments in Resurrections?

I'm talking brief moments that maybe wouldn't register as much against the whole of the film, but maybe made you happy or excited or laugh.

For me:

  • When Bugs is introducing Neo to the crew and the Synthiants and Neo nerds out for a moment over the Morpheus bot cloud thing and for a moment seems genuinely excited and happy.

  • Seq nerding out over biosky.

  • The nonchalant way Shepherd says "cool" when Neo confirms he was once able to fly.

  • Trinity doing the scorpion kick again.

  • Anything with Bug from Sense8 as the barista.

  • Neo trying to do kung-fu in his apartment during the White Rabbit montage and failing.

  • The crew briefly arguing over how tiny their escape mirror on the train is and Bugs slapping Neo's back when she says "right, in you go."

  • The brief reprise of the music that plays when Neo and Trinity are interrupted by worshipers in Reloaded for when Neo and the Mnemosyne crew first enter IO.

  • The way Neo prepares to step off the roof before Bugs stops him is the same as when he prepares to attempt (and fail) the jump program in the first film.

"This is the best thing I've done in a long time."

That entire scene!

IellaAntilles•

The way Trinity talks about her husband making light of her question ("Doesn't she look like me?"), and how she laughed when he laughed and then she hated herself for laughing... fuck, that hit close to home for me.

39
symbolic503•

yea made me really angry and even better when she finally kicked his face in

9
j_baby2519•

And even better when she sliced the Analyst throat for involving children

4
bucketgetsbigger•

Remember, she had her DSI changed (you see it briefly in the table reflection) and she doesn't look like Trinity at all.

1
IellaAntilles•

She looks like Trinity to herself. Chad is a handler program so it shouldn't matter to him what she looks like.

1
Human_BeanJuice•

That scene is beautiful.

12
honeybunchesofpwn•

Man, that line fucked me up.

To me, it really speaks to the new levels of how fucked up the Analyst's version of The Matrix is.

  • The opening sequence with trumpets blaring in the background while code starts to fall on the screen. Classic.
  • "Set and setting". Damn, I'm gonna use that line everywhere.
  • The first 30 mins in which the trilogy was actually a game. I was going crazy along with Thomas Anderson. What an interesting concept.
  • Thomas Anderson freaking out over taking the red pill in the bathroom.
  • Swarm mode is a very interesting concept
  • Civil war among the machines

Expensive-Coconut•

The whole falling out of windows was SO unsettling

19
op_blackhawk•

+1. The machines were so desperate that they were willing to sacrifice their batteries to stop Neo and Trinity.

7
Expensive-Coconut•

Actually no. Those who participated in the swarm mode were bots, programs pretending to be humans and manipulating them to generate more energy.

Yes, a not so subtle reference to how social media works, but it was quite easy to miss

29
op_blackhawk•

Ohh... That makes sense now.

4
symbolic503•

YOOOO

1
tarvertot•

Yeah, I thought the resurrection scenes would be as unsettling as it got, but I was very wrong

4
Scatterfelt•

I’m almost sure you know this, but “set and setting” is a very old term and concept in psychedelia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_and_setting

6
op_blackhawk•

Yeah...I learned about it recently. I was living under a rock all this while.

3
97TYPE-R•

Favorite part was Morpheus showing Neo the red pill in the bathroom. " Oh... no, no no" while swinging his finger and then trying leave.

mrsunrider•

There was a time people would have said Reeves couldn't act.

Fuck all that, he murdered it here.

12
Borders-live•

I LOVE this movie, but I thought the look on Neo's face there is ridiculous

IellaAntilles•
  • Sati coming back!
  • Trinity almost waking up and reaching out for Neo when he gets decanted (my heart!)
  • When Trinity says, "My dream ended here," which means in her dream she saw herself and Neo kissing and getting trapped in the killzone on the roof... which means she knew, way back in the café, that she was about to regain the love of her life only to immediately lose him and die, and she made the choice anyway.
  • A few moments when it's clear Jon Groff really studied Hugo Weaving's cadence and pronunciation to try to emulate him. He didn't do it for all his lines (that would have been over the top IMO) but just for a few key lines.

nurseofdeath•

My favourite part was when they mentioned Dozer!!

He’s my son’s Godfather!

28
The_Odd_One27•

I love that Smith helps Trinity and Neo in the finale against tha analyst.

Seeing Neo hugging the machine on bugs ship was kinda beautiful

27
EdenDoesJams•

I really missed Hugo Weaving’s Smith in that sequence especially. I just never bought that dude in the role at all but I like the story idea of them having to work together a LOT

15
The_Odd_One27•

Seeing the Merv broken and pissed off was really satisfying to look at.

24
MarcusOReallyYes•

Oh definitely. And the way that he said it wasn’t over and then was never heard from again… truly inspiring filmmaking.

His fourth wall breaking speech was so frustrating

6
eaTurk1•

Right before Neo takes the red pill he says, ffffuuuuccccckkkkkkk

20
eaTurk1•

And when he meets Morpheus in the real world for the first time and goes wwwwwhhhhhoooooaaaaaaa

8
comment_redacted•

The stuff Morpheus is saying to him just before this, about doing the same thing over and over forever, as the music gets more out there… and the looks that flash across Neo’s face just before he drops the f-bomb… all of that is just [chefs kiss].

2
Hilaveli•

Smith shouting 'Mr. Andersooooon!'

20
JoanCallas•

Sati!

Neo and Trinity’s kiss on the building

17
stickbeast•

A few have already been said, but when Morpheus takes the red pill and the agent is like “Agent Smith?” and Morpheus starts laughing.

The flashing back to the first and only time Neo and Trin saw the sunset.

Bugs’ eyebrow raise when tossing Neo into the tiny mirror.

Bugs’ glasses. I want a pair!

17
The_Odd_One27•

Or Remember when Neo tries to fly for the first time? He fails and the
others look at him like: Its ok man. That was really funny.

16
MarcusOReallyYes•

When they had to dodge people jumping out of buildings to land on them. It was one of the most creative things I’ve ever seen in cinema. It was truly revolutionary. Human bombs!

16
iantsmyth•

I love the montage set to White Rabbit

16
Human_BeanJuice•

One of my favorite scenes in any movie this year.

10

There are too many. I like when Neo and Cybebe touch faces when he first arrives on the Mnemosyne, I imagine he was of great importance to their kind as well having brokered a peace between them and she shows it through just pure physical contact, when I thought she might beep or something.

The comedic beat when Morpheus says "I know" as he's trying to hold up Neo in the train bathroom.

^ I actually like this action scene too and how it mirrors Morpheuses red pill escape from his modal - it's framed around the conceit of a disoriented character and the action while well choreographed is shot kind of passively, or framed imperfectly, like the camera is always "off" or non-participatory. It's a very intimate shooting style (not shaky or cut happy like I've seen described - just more kinetic and personal) and a subversive quality to the film I was excited to see when I originally learned Lana didn't use a second unit.

I feel the same about the office shootout as well when Neo and Morpheus meet, I think much of the choreography is all very Matrix and could very easily be shot to look more traditional but instead it's just "off" in how Lana covers the action. I like it.

15
hamilton_burger•

I think Lana keeps trying to reinforce something like “I was saying it was the REAL WORLD that is like the matrix” as the point of the original three. Somewhere along the years that point got lost, and people think it’s all the stuff that here…is just a video game.

ComplexityArtifice•

Seq is probably my favorite character in the movie. I'd have loved to see more of him, he was interesting and adorable.

14
BlueCX17•

My little head cannon is Seq has to somehow be related to Link!

14
pubg7899•

“My name is Trinity, and you better take your goddamn hands off of me.” scene…

14
Kemaiku•

All of those and like, Morpheus 2.0 takes a pill and his 'trip' is to start experiencing reality, is such a wonderful and funny reverse of the trope.

12
ComplexityArtifice•

I liked when Bugs gave him her sunglasses, and he says "I've never worn different sunglasses before" and she gives him that sweet, amused look that we've all given to a friend who was being adorable while tripping or high.

24
Kemaiku•

It's such a good moment between them, and getting to see Programs experience new things like we got briefly with the Animatrix.
