Just a reminder

RV is on pace to smash his point total from last year, Danault has already matched his goals from last year in 22 less games, and is on the tail of his assist total from last year. Pepe Lemieux is on pace for his best offensive season of his career, along with his intangibles that he brings.

I’m not saying Rob Blake is goat GM, but his haters gotta start giving some credit at some point. Great additions over the summer

Danault has been a breath of fresh air, our 2nd line feels potent finally.

The "4th line" of Lemieux - Lizotte - Kaliyev have exceeded expectations given their minutes. Just need a better 3rd line, hopefully Byfield is that key piece in a week or two.

Defensively, will need a few upgrades. I don't see Anderson being a long term 1st pairing option. Bjornfot seems fine in the top 4. Happy to see the back of Maatta in the summer, and Edler is likely done. Let's see what Blake decides to do there.

Byfield

Saw him on Friday. The skills are there. He just needs to get his conditioning back. He was gassed quick during his shifts

He's made it clear he wants a true top LD so hopefully he can aquire one

And who do you trade to get that LD? I don't think you want to give up much in terms of assets. Maybe trade our 1st in '22+ for somebody.

I actually thought they improved recently. The puck movement is significantly better. I’m hoping something clicked. But I agree it’s a massive problem to be so bad at the power play. Cleaning that up would make a significant difference for the seasons outlook.

Doughty is back and we're seeing confidence among the new players and lines, so I expect the PP to follow suit. The Kings have always been an "attitude first" PP team.

I think the PP is fine. Its come a long way from what it used to be. I remember dumping and chasing on the PP. Now they actually set it up and look somewhat dangerous. Granted, could it be better? Of course. But progress has been made. Once we get Byfield, Turcotte and Vilardi in the mix, we'll be better for it.

Here's my take on the PP. When you have a notoriously bad power play teams feel free to pressure you more freely because they don't feel threatened. This in turn takes away time and space which makes it harder to act on the power play thus in turn fulfilling the cycle of "your PP is bad". I think the first thing you brought up is one of the biggest issues that would help alleviate some of that pressure, but clean crisp passing is another. When anyone is under pressure they just chuck it around the boards and hope the next guy has more space to make a pass rather than trying to be methodical with it.

Not just Blake but McLellan too. Criticize the special teams all you want but McLellan is getting this team to buy in.

He is. Also it’s hilarious how we have all these set play goals (last game and more) straight from TMacs system, a coach proving he’s willing to adapt (less 1-3-1 trap, more aggressive play now) and a team behind him willing to buy in.

Also “he jumbles lines too much!!” Yeah, he did last season, when we were trying to find an identity. It wasn’t too much, we sucked and he was looking for what would work, aka an identity

Yet he’s still casted as an absolute doofus who has no idea what he’s doing. The only point I can agree on is special teams are ass and we might need to do something soon

At least we're good 5 v 5. The pp will come, just give it time. Practice and time.

The defense could use some assistance but hot damn was Danault the signing of the off season. Shades of Stoll with him

Just asked this the other day.

Playing in Ontario, has been working on his North Anerican game. So IB ends like he may have a chance for a call up in the future

You can search up any player/prospect and just follow it up with “elite prospects” to see current their current stats and team they play for. Updated way quicker then something like Wikipedia, wiki only records after the season is over

Elite Prospects records stats after each game.

Pepe Lemieux

Damn what a blast into my past. He is one of my Mom's favorites.

I think using Danaults and Arrvy's point totals from last season in comparison is a good example of why Blake is a GOAT GM. RV had 10 goals and 25 points last season, after trading 2 second round picks for him I think the bare minimum is outperforming that year. Similarly for Danault, who had 5 goals and 24 points the hope would be that he outperformed those totals. The reality is he invested 2 second round picks and ~10 million in cap space over the next few years in two players who are almost 30 coming off seasons where they scored at 0.5 ppg. There are some pretty big expectations for those two and I would hope it wouldn't just be outperforming last year.
