Does the CPS have a chance after the GAW

Question

Even if the GAW ends in a pro-Japanese ceasefire, can Japan even maintain the faction, let alone its Empire without China? It looks like they need to win outright if they want any chance of keeping a global presence. It really sets up Germany and the US (or just the US because Germany will most likely collapse again if they don't choose Speer) to be the world's hegemons more often than not.

If they gained other members like Iran, Italy, or even a friendly Russia, would that be enough to have the CPS stay intact, or is it destined to fail without outright victory in the Cold War?

I see it going the same was as Britain OTL. All but bankrupting itself in a large war and losing its prize colonial possessions, the rest will follow suit as the overlord loses the ability to enforce it. Maybe if Japan liberalises it'll be able to hold onto a Commonwealth style relationship with them and maybe just then it'll be a player in the Cold War.

Bare in mind a major theme of the mod is that the fascist systems of the axis powers are not stable. The CPS collapsing into a minor power would be an expected outcome.

Isn't the fascist's system collapsing not more cannon I heard a lot of people in here, saying that.

They don't want to make fascist systems doomed to collapse because they realised it undermined the idea that these regimes are dangerous. But they're also not making an absurdly wasteful colonial fascist empire viable without reform. After fighting the GAW theres no way a colonial empire could hold itself together even if it won.

It would utterly shatter the Japanese reputation if one of their puppets manages to break free and I can imagine some of Japan’s less controlled satellites like Indonesia might walk out to join China.

Italy may or may not stick with Japan depending on whether or not Japan retains control of its influence in Africa, Indian Ocean and South East Asia. Iran probably the same. Russia idk

This outcome might not be the worst for CPS though; it might embolden reformers to make the CPS less blatantly exploitative towards its members. On the flip side it could encourage hardliners to hold their colonies tighter.

Japan will probably go through a massive political upheaval regardless and the OFN will feel emboldened to poke more holes

Both Japan and Germany need to work for it to stay in the game. They lack the foundations of the US, who basically just needs to hold on and throw time bombs at the other nations. It's always good to be an American

I think any GAW firing off would be the end of Japanese superpower. Even if Japan miraculously manages to win, they'll be depopulated and they already have demographic issues. Plus if you follow Gao's path, they already rely on China for food, resources, industry and electronics, so by griefing China they effectively grief themselves.

The only hope Japan would have to stay in the game would be to prevent the GAW using diplomacy. That means going all in on democratic/reform path, and hoping ppl forget their war crimes as long as they bring investment, goods and friendly words...

They would also have a chance to stay relevant if they have a rational govt, lose the GAW with a dignified exit, and all the other superpowers are shitting themselves, like US getting Yockey, Germany getting Heydrich etc.
