Since OP is probably going to get banned anytime soon for misinformation I suggest the people who go all bonkers about this to read the bijsluiter from a paracetamol. But now suddenly we are looking with a magnifier at every 0.000001% potential side effect, give me a break and just admit you don't know jack shit about vaccines.

80
MatvaliciousLocal furry, don't feed him•

Yeah, this has always annoyed me to no end in the entire vaccine "debate". People have never ever read their "bijsluiter" of anything and now of all a sudden everyone has a magnifying glass on the .000something % of something going wrong.

19
SuckMyBikeVlaams-Brabant•

And then when shit gets bad they rush to the hospital and let doctors pump them full of medication to save their life. No questions asked about what's in the medication or what the side effects are

10
BehemothDeTerreBelgium•

I'm the opposite: I always read the "notice" for everything, but conversely did not look too much into the secondary effects of these vaccines.

I mean they are unsafe...for a very small subset of the population. Positive for most, bad for a few.

Just like ANY kind of medication out there.

3
konalight•

Yeah, paracetamol, but get a load of the side effects of Aspirin or birth control pills! If everybody would read the flyer (bijsluiter) OTC medication use would drop by 50%.

3
ShieldofGondor•

This summer there was finally some attention to the dangers of birth control pills as a chart went around demonstrating that blood clots from the vaccine was a negligible risk as “the pill” had a much higher chance.

But for some reason, now this very small chance is reason enough to panic.

2
SuckMyBikeVlaams-Brabant•

Fun fact: effective male birth control pills have passed clinical trials in the past and could've been brought to market. But they weren't because the test subjects experienced similar side effects to what women get from their pill and the test subjects said that they wouldn't be interested in using the pill in daily life due to those side effects.

So the male birth control pill is not on the market because us men are a bunch of pussies.

1
Procatstinator•

One of my former GPs actually brought up the side effects of the pill, as I take it without a break. He explained what a stroke is, how to recognise it, what are other stroke risks and so on. He just wanted people to be aware, but he also explained how rare it is versus other stroke risk factors.

I've had rare side effects of other meds in the past. Bad enough to take me off of them. Sometimes results in a little frowning of doctors because it is so rare. Yeah sucks when it is you. But that is life, sometimes you have a bad dice roll. I say pick your dices accordingly and see risk in proportion to the overall gain.

1
Gulmar•

Sounds like you have a good GP!

My girlfriend's gyno only wanted to prescribe the pill to her if she wasn't a smoker and there wasn't a history of strokes in the family.

1
Procatstinator•

Had. I've moved and switched a few times within group practices too. It was actually years ago many years ago, after I had an IUD removed that was causing me a lot of grief, that I was recommended it is now actually considered safe to take the pill fulltime. That was by a gyno, after which I talked about it with that doctor.

I've also asked my current GP, and she's like yeah, that's what we learn in school now. I don't smoke and strokes don't run in the family, I was asked about those though. New GP was more concerned with my high cholesterol, which is familial, and diet didn't put a high enough dent in it to bring me into a safe zone. So she said the next best step for my health would be statins.

If your GF didn't get her prescription she should talk with her doctor or gyno about it. Older generations of pills are not associated with it afaik. But they tend to give more of other side effects. If lucky you don't get those and it can be an alternative. Personally I wouldn't want to go without. Even if work gave me days off to suffer period sickness I would rather work and not deal with it. Also, you know, not getting pregnant when that's not what you've planned for is kinda nice.

1
R-GiskardReventlovWest-Vlaanderen•

That's what people don't get. I'm taking meds that have a literal black box warning saying they cause cancer. I'm still better off with them than without.

Zero risk does not exist, and everything has side effects.

2

When is was still i "chiro leider" i had and autistic kid in my group that was on risperdal. One night on bivak i was curious and read the "bijsluiter". Oh boy that shit had some nasty possible side effects, and the dose we gave him was so much higher than recommended for someone his weight. I actually called his mom the next day to confirm what he had to take. After that i started reading almost all "bijsluiters" for fun/precaution.

1
Siegli•

Last time I went to the pharmacy for sorting I was prescribed she told me “don’t read the bijsluiter, I know you’ll get frightened”, called her the time before to check about something weird was feeling. If you are prone to panic attacks those things are a nightmare

We estimated an extra two (95% confidence interval (CI) 0, 3), one (95% CI 0, 2) and six (95% CI 2, 8) myocarditis events per 1 million people vaccinated with ChAdOx1, BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273, respectively, in the 28 days following a first dose and an extra ten (95% CI 7, 11) myocarditis events per 1 million vaccinated in the 28 days after a second dose of mRNA-1273. This compares with an extra 40 (95% CI 38, 41) myocarditis events per 1 million patients in the 28 days following a SARS-CoV-2 positive test.

https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj-2021-068665

Nevertheless, SARS-CoV-2 infection was associated with a 14-fold increased risk of cardiac arrest or death in the 28 days after a positive SARS-CoV-2 test compared with uninfected follow-up.

However, the absolute rate of myocarditis or myopericarditis cases after SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination was low overall, among female participants, and among younger age groups. In addition, the clinical outcomes after myocarditis or myopericarditis events were predominantly mild, providing evidence to support the overall safety of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines.

Titles out of context easy, research hard. Get your BS out of here.

Moderna is basically the same vaccine as pfizer for all intents and purposes, but about twice the dose. As a result it's more effective against covid, but also has worse side effects.

7
v8xd•

30 x 2 = 60 en niet 100

1
bulging_cucumber•

You're right, it's actually 3.3x the dose with moderna (100 ugrams) compared to pfizer (30 ugrams). However the booster dose, as far as I understand, is a full dose for pfizer and a half-dose for moderna, so 1.7x the dose for moderna compared to pfizer. Of course the two vaccines are not necessarily *identical*, but to my understanding (and according to press articles I've read) they're sufficiently similar that we can compare dose sizes in this manner.

Got my invitation for the Moderna booster however I would rather not take the risk and prefer to get a Pfizer booster. Is that possible?

-2†
SuckMyBikeVlaams-Brabant•

No. We can't choose which vaccine we get.

The risk of myocarditis after a Covid infection is also 4 times higher than after a Covid vaccine.
On top of that, nearly all vaccine-induced myocarditis cases are mild and resolve themselves within a few days without any intervention needed like medication or hospitalization.
That's not the case for covid infection-induced myocarditis. Those are more likely to be dangerous and require treatment.

Of course, either of these chances are still in the 1/1.000.000 range so you shouldn't be worried. The only reason we changed our policy is because we have the luxury to do so, not because the risk is high enough to be of any serious concern.

Definieer "brol".
