Prevent finger damage?

Anyone else hurt their middle finger on their right hand (right handed) when just hitting balls? Typical injury is skin separation from the nail on the side closer to the ring finger. I thought I found a solution by using tape to give a bit of support but now the skin on the side of my finger tip is tearing instead.

I use a slightly strong overlap grip, with light pressure and the club in my fingers. I usually make decent ball first contact. No difference of injury that I've noticed due to grass on course or off a mat at the range. Grips are in good condition, but sometimes I do feel a bit of twisting when I strike the ball.

Anyone with similar experience or potential solutions? Thanks!

Yes, I have this problem too and it mostly seems to happen when my hands are overly dry. But... it also happens when I have the shanks. Moisturize a little bit and see if it helps.

I had this same problem at first. Adjust the grip so more pressure is applied using the pinky and index because it's supported by the thumbs aswell rather than the middle two fingers and it should fix it straight away. It's just slight pressure adjustments in your grip.

Overwhelming odds are that your grip is poor.

That part of the hand should be almost completely out of play.

If the club is spinning, your grip is not correct.

Tape should help minimize the damage. I only get these injuries if I haven’t played in a long time and decide to hit a couple hundred balls. Lighter grip pressure and it may give you extra motivation to hit the sweet spot

You should be squeezing with the pad of your thumb and the first knuckles. Sounds like you are wrapping your fingers right around the grip.

Thanks for the link. Not wrapping, I'm more or less in a similar position to the illustration. Looking at my fingers a little closer, perhaps I have a bit of a deformity that makes my fingers twist a bit more than usual and rub excessively. Maybe I'm crazy. Starting to think overlap/interlock isn't for me as I play more frequently and the injury is impacting how I swing.
