Where to find professional clothes that don't need to be hemmed?

Question

Hi fellow short humans! I'm a 4' 11.5" pharmacy intern/student about to go into my final year of rotations this summer and I have suddenly outgrown all of my professional clothes (mainly pants)! I'm sort of on a time crunch with everything being closed because of COVID (walked into a H&M the other day to find their fitting room was closed!) and school starting up again soon and not having another true break before my rotations begin. All of my dress pants in the past I've had to get hemmed but i'm not sure if my local seamstress is even open right now so I'm wondering where you guys would shop for professional/dress pants that wouldn't have to be hemmed? I tried on a pair of 10 "Short" Alfani pants in Macys the other day and they're still wayyy too long! At this point I've determined I'm somewhere between a size 10 and 12 in dress pants, and normally jeans in extra-short from american eagle fit me length wise. Any advice on stores to look at would be amazing!!!

Banana Republic, short if you’re curvy/wider hips and thighs, petite if you’re more on the traditional petite side. I get short. There is a style called Sloan that hits just at below my ankles, I’m 5’1 but with a long torso and extra short inseam typically so I think that might also work for you.

Seconding this! A lot of their petite cuts fit me. I’m about 4’11.5” as well and my weight fluctuates between 96-105ish. Banana republic 00 and 0’s are the best fitting. Second is a tie between Gap 00 and 0 petite and Ann Taylor 00. Loft runs pretty large in my experience. I shopped a lot online for these brands.

Outside of those four, I’ve scored some great work pants from top shop and forever 21. But those are pretty inconsistent.

I'm 5'1" and curvy with wider hips/thighs and I wear Banana Republic petite sizes and they fit me perfectly. I'm generally a 2P in their tops/jackets/blazers and a 4P in their pants. It's been my go-to place to buy workwear for years.

I'm 4'11" and pear shaped. I've had the best luck with Ann Taylor & Loft slacks (petite curvy fit)

I second this, my best fitting jeans are from Loft in the petite curvy fit! 5’ 0” and ~115-120 lbs

Aritzia has cropped pants, I’m 5’0 and they are the best I’ve found so far. No hemming needed. They are fairly pricey but worth it in my opinion. Look up the Babaton Conan Pant.

Old navy has work pants (called pixie I think?) they have them in different colors, lengths and rises? Not sure if they’ve changed or cut back on production in Covid but those work really well for me I own like 5 of them and they’re all still in good condition

Uniqlo is 90% of my work wardrobe! Their slacks are the only slacks that fit me. I’m somewhere around a size 3/4ish in jeans and I’m 5’3’’. Their slacks hit me a few inches above the ankle so it might be full length on you.

I haven’t had it done in years, but Uniqlo also offers free hemming on certain purchases!

4'11" here, just went to white house black market, their ankle cut (regular sizing) fit perfectly but they also have petite sizing. Loft had some nice finds too. If you can still only find pants that are too long, you can roll the cuff inside (like a normal hem), iron and use safety pins as a temporary fix. But honestly just rolling the cuff inside has held ok for me, without ironing or safety pins.

Edit: In older threads, I've also seen old navy mentioned which I'll be checking out soon

As a fellow 4' 11" person, I wish you luck! Even when I buy 'petite' clothing, I have to have it all hemmed. Hope you can find something.

Uniqlo~ I'm barely 5'2" and I never had to hem their trousers or long skirts. If still needed, they do free alterations for full priced items or a $5 fee for items on sale purchased less than $20~

I'm 5'1" and swear by Express! All of their work pants come in "short", but you'll probably have to order online. They also have stretchy and curvy fit pants. As a caveat tho I wear size 0 and I'm not sure if the length is consistent for larger sizes.
