PSA: check your assists settings prior to racing online

Guide / Tips

This is my PSA to remember to check your settings prior to jumping online.

Most specifically the autosteering and autobraking options.

I turned them on for the first time just for the Bentley 100 miles challenge this week so I could just sit at my pc and just hold throttle in a blueprint without having to steer. I had already had my progress wiped once and just wanted the challenge done.

HOWEVER, since I rarely mess with settings I foolishly forgot to turn them off prior to jumping into online and races in Horizon Open and my first attempt of The Trial.

In the open it wasnt such a big deal since I was already started last and was just trying for clean driving skills but I was wondering why my car was acting funky and not steering with my stick movements.

It was the trial is where it clicked for me like oh yeah I might be using autosteering. The game was trying to hold me to the driving line so I couldnt really pass the AI or move out of the way for teammates behind me to pass.

After a couple corners of race 1 of the trial I realized the disadvantage I was under and danger I was posing to teammates that were being blocked so I quit out. I figured fumbling with settings would take too long even if it was possible to change midrace/championship (which I am not sure about)

Apologies to my teammates for those early corners of that trial but hopefully my quitting out early didnt compromise the rest of you too much from the trial challenge.

Let this post just serve as my notice to not be like me and actually check your settings are correct ahead of time.
