Ephemeral

What my eyes have seen,

what they have yet to see.

The dimming rays of the setting sun,

the bright possibilities as it rises again.

The breath expanding my ribcage,

making it cave in again, as it escapes.

Like a wave crashing against a shore,

settling, before shifting into the next one.

The face of the moon slowly filling itself,

before drowning in the shadow of the sky.

I face my own past’s destruction

and reinvent myself in an other light.

The double paced sound of a clock,

mimicking the one of my heartbeat,

sets racing thoughts in motion;

my existence is temporary.

Memories that I carry permanently

are the only thing keeping me together.

Marks of time remain etched on my skin,

proving I am exactly where I need to be.

ah, this poem is a breath of fresh air. the imagery is akin to what I find appreciation for in life, yet it incorporates movement which i fall into. i really appreciate the regular rhythm it has, helping me to read it with greater ease.

the poem uses the simplicity of life and gives them beauty

well done.

I do not know what the word Ephemeral is or what it means. But this poem’s really powerful. I interpreted as someone moving on from a difficult path (what to me feels like a struggle with mental illness), and they’re acknowledging the challenges and traumas they’ve faced. I love the moving on at the end of the poem as well. Keep it up!!!

thanks for the feedback and your interpretation, much appreciated! (also, something ephemeral is something temporary/short-lived, hope this helps)

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.
