Sleepovers
You don’t have sleepovers once you’re older.
You don’t take late-night-trips to Tesco,
trying to coax balding men
into buying you a packet of Malboros.
You don’t draw lions and tigers
over your friends' bare shoulders with a biro
because you’re going to be a tattoo artist
after you’ve left school.
You don’t laugh and cry
and wrestle
and eat a whole box of Crunchy Nut
then take turns to dry heave
into a toilet.
You don’t raid your parents bottomless
alcohol cupboard
then streak and piss
in a cul-de-sac.
Instead, you talk about their boyfriends
and careers
and the degree you’re still trying to get.
You talk about those memories
you made when you were fourteen
because they’re now the only things
you share in common.
