"Beware of Dogs!"
I keep my rusted gates shut,
Barred with a sign that reads,
"Beware of dogs!"
But there were no dogs,
And the only one inside was me,
Barking at every stranger that crosses.
Because back when the gates were open,
I was bitten
By the wild wolves I had welcomed;
They infected me with rabies,
And made me growl at the sight of man;
Every person I saw, I wanted to bite,
And so I did;
I chased moving critters,
And bit every man that came near.
The village decided to hunt me down,
And declared bounty on my head;
They wanted to cage me in the pound,
And put me down
Because I was, in their eyes,
A dangerous dog.
So I locked myself inside my home,
Scaring every man away;
Yet behind my barks and growls,
I howl at night wishing to the moon
For someone to finally break in
Carrying a cure to my bite.
