Available for rent
I left your voice-notes unopened
for longer than I needed to,
just so that for a few moments,
your name was there when my screen
lit up.
Your towel was left behind
after the nights you stayed over;
I hung it up on the line downstairs
so I didn’t have to be reminded
of the unanswered questions
floating around my mind
every time I took a shower.
The room in my soul I built just for you
has been dismantled;
emptied by my acceptance that
you wished you had met me before love was
‘ruined for you’.
The walls will begin to crack
and the strings on your guitar
in the corner will start to rust;
the curtains will yellow from years
of sun and collect days of dust.
But therein that room will always remain
a place where we are dancing.
