My Issue with CLB

You know what my problem with CLB is? Imagine a famous painter paints this amazing painting of some guy. It’s amazing, incredible detail and colouring. Then he does a second portrait of the same guy in a different pose still amazing quality. Then he does a third portrait of the same guy in another pose, but equal quality. Then he does a fourth of the same guy in a another pose, same quality. At some point you’re just tired of looking at the same dude. You want a different painting to look at. You start to think they all look the same and you start to wonder if he’s actually a good painter or if he can only paint the same picture.

CLB isn’t bad, it’s just something we already saw before.

I want Drake to paint a completely different picture.

He tried that with more life & views and got called a culture vulture and had to watch everybody say they missed the old drake, CLB sounds like a mix of all his era’s just like what the trailer portrays

People always say this but who is 'everybody'? I loved More Life and Views, especially how he incorporated global influences. I wish he would continue more with that.

Yeah, but you can make different music without using Jamaican patois…..

“Do it differently”…”wait not differently like that, differently the way I want” you sound a bit entitled

Middle_Speed•

entitled or idiotic? lol

4
engipreneurOP•

No I’m just saying there are different options. I liked Views for the record.

SnooMacarons6103•

So he can experiment with his sound but only the way y’all want him to? And besides that point his hometown is one of the biggest melting pots of cultures, especially Jamaican culture so him tapping into that realm is completely understandable

22
engipreneurOP•

Yeah I have no problem with it. Just saying there are options man.

SnooMacarons6103•

What sound would you honestly wanna see drake experiment with aside from everything he’s done before?

MrSpencerMcIntoshViews•

Art is subjective. There may be “options” on the whole, but for Drake as an artist, these two things have worked for him.

What do you want from him? A country record?

bruh out here writing out an essay, also that's a pretty bad take imo, clb is much different than his older work, and an artist such as a painter never perfects his art, they strive to be better with every new project

a lot of ppl on this sub haven't listened to clb more than twice..

I love that album. It’s very good and it will age like wine.

CLB isn’t just the same painting, at worst I see it as the best execution of the art in many regards

People online where screaming for the old Drake. He goes back to that sound and then he gets criticised for not changing as an artist.

Also it’s very interesting to see that people allow artists like Pusha T, Future and The Weeknd to have the same exact content across their albums but they won’t allow Drake to do it.

27
SnooMacarons6103•

You know how it goes bro, it’s hypocrisy across the rap game towards drake

18
engipreneurOP•

Yeah but I mean none of them are in the conversation for GOAT. If you are GOAT tier, people will have different expectations.

2
KF3OU•

I’ve seen Future included in GOAT lists.

DougDrewless•

We don’t worry about the goat lists made by people with IQs below 80

So do you want Drake to sing about environmental issues? What the heck he supposed to sing? At most he can change the type of the brush he uses in the paintings. In fact he did. Basically, scorpion had productions of boi-1da, clb had oz. Clb has very different features than previous projects. And overall it’s a combination of the projects we saw in the trailer. I mean did we had humming cudi before? Come on bro :)

Heat of the Moment still underrated

DabDaddyDab06•

I agree, I think he might be trying to hard to give a little bit of everything to everyone musically. It seems like since Scorpion he HAS to give us R&B , Rap, Lyrical Tracks, and even dancehall songs.

I sorta wish he’d just stick to a genre of music and roll with it the entire album but hey his recipe works and hopefully the next album he puts out is a lot better!

6
Smurkioo-CLB•

Would you want a whole R&B album for drake? Drake is in a hard spot where he has to do multiple different sounds and styles to appeal to his diverse fanbase.

3
DabDaddyDab06•

I actually would, but definitely would have to be like 10-13 tracks only. Anything more would be overkill.

rileyelton•

CLB is classic. It’ll take a few years for everyone to come around. Cover is classic too.

Rekter_x•

I think the recent poll of best albums is very telling of what people think of Drake’s discography - the top 3 were all from over 7 years ago. He has been making music to be consumed by the masses, endlessly smashing sales and streaming records - but that just makes him the Dwayne Johnson of the Music Industry, rather than its Marlon Brando

4
KF3OU•

Ehh no not really. De Niro makes all those stupid old man films these days. But that doesn’t takeaway from how great his earlier filmography was.

Dwayne Johnson doesn’t have a film that’s deemed a masterpiece the way Take Care, NWTS and If You’re Reading is.

2
Rekter_x•

Then I guess you’re right - De Niro is a more fitting representative of what Drake is, and isn’t it time we got the equivalent of the Irishman?

3
thedream1012•

Bruh you’re N 2 Deep

4
BoondockBrutha•

i completely disagree. listen to so far gone or comeback season, even thank me later, clb and his other recent work are vastly different from where he started.

2
1058pm•

“This is a story, came from my life and im just recording this shit” he just talks about whats going on in his life

2
sminogri•

You’re getting a lot of hate but I’m gonna go against the tide and say I feel you. Drake consistently creates great records but doesn’t seem to grow with his sound or his bars. It’s top notch quality but why at Drake’s age is he making a song like TSU???

He’s an entertainer at the end of the day but I haven’t felt a shift in his perspective that could be heard through the music since NWTS. Would love to see him do that.

2
Slim236•

bro in short drake just needs to grow up ffs

2
Smurkioo-CLB•

Wym grow up?

2
ENISAS•

You use many word to explain simple idea

1
BOYGOTFUNK•

The euphemism isn’t necessary. CLB is full of lesser iterations of songs he’s already done.

1
Sum1sDad•

Yea I agree. He used the same formula with this release. It’s a good album. But it’s like having your favorite thing for dinner all month long.

1
Middle_Speed•

You dumb as hell boy.

All of Drakes albums define era’s. He’s constantly evolving. It’s crazy to me how one of the main critiques on Drake is so clearly and obviously not true at all if you just think about it critically for like 3 seconds.

IYRTITL sounds nothing like NWTS. Views sounds nothing like IYRTITL. Scorpion sounds nothing like Views.

and guess what? CLB sounds nothing like scorpion.
