2022 has not been my friend - a vent

I can’t believe my life right now. I was supposed to start back at work after 6 months of MAT leave the beginning of January. My husband and I ended up getting COVID and had to quarantine that first week. Our 6 month old and 2 year old never tested positive even though having symptoms and being with us the entire time.

So Wednesday of this week we find out my 6 month old was a close contact at daycare. Okay, means he has to test every day and as long as he’s negative with no symptoms he can go. On Friday, daycare messages me and lets me know he spit up quite a bit but otherwise he was fine and they were just letting me know. I thought it may have been that days worth of frozen breast milk messing with his tummy a bit. That night when I was putting him to bed he spit up again all over the two of us. But otherwise he was fine. It was a lot but I shrugged it off.

Well fast forwards two days and myself and my 2 year old have the stomach bug. First time my 2 year old has ever puked. (Mind you we live in the northeast and just got a ton of snow so my husband was dealing with that). So obviously the 6 month old had it and gave it to us.

After a long day we survive, and then get a message that my 2 year old has been a close contact at daycare as well and will need to test the next few days. I’m pretty confident that both my kids had Covid when my husband and I did but since they never tested positive they don’t fall under the 90 day immunity rule. But okay, that’s fine we will test them daily.

So now it’s Monday, I called out of work because of stomach bug germs, and as I’m in the middle of doing all of our contaminated laundry I realize I’ve GOTTEN MY PERIOD!!! 6 months pp, breast feeding, and I got an IUD in 2 months ago. I didn’t get my period back until 10 months with my first and hardly had a period with my first IUD. On top of that, my 6 month old woke up today with a fever and being extra cuddly. Is it the stomach virus still lingering, is he teething, does he somehow now just have Covid?!

If you read all this, you are a saint and I just needed a place to vent!

Have you been over to r/workingmoms? It is such a hot mess right for all of us and you might like to see there that you’re def not alone! Btw I misread at first as if you DIDN’T get your period (when expected) so I guess it could be worse there lol

I’m a follower there as well! The sickness COVID train is just non stop. Just crazy that after almost two years of dealing with COVID we get it for the first time and then three weeks later we get our first daycare stomach bug! My 2 YO had never puked before this!

Ugh. I feel you! My baby is 5 months old and I feel like the hits just keep coming. I broke my foot on maternity leave and since returning to work we have had multiple stomach bugs (thanks to our 2.5 year old and daycare), a couple of non-Covid colds, hand foot and mouth disease (me and the baby), and just finished a Covid exposure/quarantine.

When does it get better? Life is really hard right now.

Solidarity! Right there with you.

If anyone wants to know how I’m doing. The answer is NOT WELL. My 2 yo just tested positive for COVID after having a close contact at daycare. She was home with me and my husband the first week of January when we tested positive for COVID and never caught it. 2 days at daycare with one kid who tested positive three days later and she’s positive.

Someone end the madness?! This will be our second COVID quarantine in 30 days. Am I a bad parent for just wanting my 6mo to test positive at this point so we can sync up our 90 day immunity timelines? I don’t want either of them to get sick but it feels inevitable at this point.
