Will skating in a larger volume skate (thicc legs) have a negative impact if I don't need the extra width for my foot?

I have larger legs (muscles, fat, bones, etc.). I'm 5'9" but I have a long torso and shorter legs.

Currently skating in 5yo S160s and I need to get new skates, and I'd like to buy a pair of Ultrasonics. I could really use the extra volume from something like Bauer Fit 3 at the top of the boot, but I don't want to make the change if the extra width of the foot area is going to be a problem.

Any other tree trunk legs bros have experience in this realm?

Choose the skate size that fits like a glove. Extra room is going to negatively impact your skating ability as you won’t be transfer your muscle/body movements to the ice.

Don’t let your brain pick you skate but let your feet pick you skate. Try everything on. If you have to goto several different stores to try everything on, please do that.

Every week there are posts about skates hurting feet.

Um I don't think that's really how that works. I'm similar height to you but I actually do need high volume skates (my goalie skates are like a 7.5ee in supreme, player skates are like 7.5e tacks). For me, it's the width across the base of my foot where I need extra width. I'm not sure how jacked your calves are (I'm over 200lbs and lift regularly), you shouldn't need extra volume there. That's the area you can most impact by lacing, as long as you can physically get your foot in the skate.

What do you legs have to do with picking a skate that fits?

I've read this title about five times and I still don't understand it.
