It's specifically Scottish, it hasn't really taken off in the rest of the UK. They're missing out, that's all I can say.

I suppose in a way it's not too inaccurate, Scotland is British after all (for now).
Then again, there's obviously a difference between culture and geography. Scotland is part of the UK, but British society is almost entirely centralised to southern England, so we (and the other celts) tend to do our own thing.
So yeah, it's definitely a Scottish cultural thing, and Google are a shower of bastards for implying otherwise.
