I’m with you on the pencil. Starts with a pencil next a sharpie before you know it they at the strip mall in your truck with your wife and dog. Good show!!

If you're resi you should definitely have an actual hammer in there

14
SenorMasterChefOP•

I did, but I think they were lost/stolen. Estwing 20 oz ripclaw too. Thought i was gonna have that baby for life

8
Waffy_74•

If it was Estwing, it most definitely was stolen.

The yellow tape didn't help?

2
SenorMasterChefOP•

Didnt have enough yellow tape

Spokesman93Foreman•

Everyone should

Depends, I spent 2020 walking around and troubleshooting fire alarm systems and installing the occasional device /pulling cable.

This past year was all slab where we screwed boxes down with drywall screws and didn't nail anything. We had a communal hammer in one of the job boxes for the rare occasion we needed it.

I haven't had a hammer in my tool bag in a while just because of the weight and infrequency of needing it. Now we're finally on to the emt and rough in phase of this office tower so I might have to start carrying one again.

Linesman is an electricians hammer

12
NinjaPale3750•

They are all hammers if your desperate... Or lazy enough.

2
UnitedPuppySlayer•

Shit, I’ve used my wallet as a hammer before.

2

How do you like those grey handled hybrid pliers?

5
SenorMasterChefOP•

I loved them. They were my main pair of pliers till I got my linesmans this last friday, so 2 days ago. Ive been able to twist up to five 14awg solid with the greys.

Also they are so quick if I’m doing outlets. Only thing they cant do is strip romex sheathing. A similar took by ideal has that feature though.

2
crawlswithgusto•

Do you like your Milwaukee stripper? I hate mine, I literally despise it for its innate tendency to refuse to strip stranded wire or take as many strands off a wire as it possibly can. For solid it works fine

5

I’ve got the same pair and haven’t had that issue with it stripping to thick into stranded. Have you tried using the next size up hole and twisting the plier back and forth? I do this sometimes when the coating seems to be sticking.

3
yourenotserious•

Yea I went back to Klein pretty quickly.

2
crawlswithgusto•

I have 2 sets of the small yellow handle Kleins that never give me a problem. I’ll probably be buying myself a set of Klein kurves

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

For me they work great in terms of stripping stranded. I just cut the notch then pull the insulation off with the pliers.

Also use them to hold live wires when splicing.

1
crawlswithgusto•

I can agree that they make a decent needle nose and cutter but I’m still unimpressed with their stripping capabilities

1
knipex_addict•

You need more strippers

3
SenorMasterChefOP•

At this point ill have to show an ID

4
[deleted]•

Like those meaty dikes you got there

3
SenorMasterChefOP•

Its my most favorite hammer

3
Username_for_today•

Damn, they’re bigger than the lineman’s hammers.

1
CTTT93•

I have them mini needle-nose pliers, think I paid £3.99 on Amazon and they’re one of the most handy tools in my bag.

2
SenorMasterChefOP•

I think everyone should have a tiny pair of needle nose. Such a time saver

xXYoHoHoXx•

Perfect for fishing through 90 degree holes and so much else.

1
DoubleDecaff•

I'm concerned with the lack of hammers. You sure you're an electrician?

1
RakealldayApprentice IBEW•

wdym?? i see 3 hammers and possibly a 4th one if you count the drill

9
DoubleDecaff•

I was furthering the tradition of simply everything being a hammer as required.

3
xXYoHoHoXx•

I see a lot more than that. Only things there I wouldn't use as a hammer are the level and the testers.

1
mashuganist•

I see about 10 or 11 hammers in this photo lol

3

Minimum set of tools! 👍👍👍💸💸💸

Do those Romex strippers actually work? Contemplating getting a pair

1
2dogsnwife•

I've used these for 21 years and hardly can be without them. I've got one pair and the attics and crawl spaces of my past have 9 or 10 pairs.

3
G_locc•

I might need to invest…y’all know if they make strippers for 8-3 sheathing? Just had to install a 1900 box for a wall oven in a tiny ass drawer on the floor about 6 inches tall and 3 feet deep…I got long skinny arms but using the razor was a bitch

1
Noisy_Graveyard•

Yes

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

They are great but I got them a few months ago. So only thing I use them for is to cut the sheathing and out of habit I do everything else with the grey hybrids.

1
crawldad82Apprentice•

Starting an apartment building soon so I’ll pick these up for sure then!

1
crawldad82Apprentice•

Strippers are definitely a tool that everybody has their own preference for. I personally hate the multi tool type strippers like those grey ones. I just learned on the thin jaw style and can’t use anything else now. Funny how that works. I have a coworker that’s used the smallest cheap ones and won’t use anything else

1
swabbies08•

Pouch must be heavy if this is your EDC..

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

Veto TPXL. Only thing i have trouble fitting is the tracer and the stud finder. But i use a separate pouch for those. Its a trade off but I also refuse to wear a belt.

2
2dogsnwife•

Great looking kit. I like all the meters. The most important tool on the table. You look like an excellent worker. Good luck!

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

Thank you. I like to think that I’m a very lazy worker that likes to take pride in my work. And having the right meter at the right time saves me a lot of walking

1
G_locc•

Do you pull wire with those thick ass gloves? I can barley stand the thin rubber ones lol. I have a pair of thick Milwaukee’s I wear if we fuck with pipe and certain shit outside in the winter.

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

I dont do anything without those gloves on. Ive had to stick my hand in one too many dark pointy places to not wear them.

1

I spot 5 suitable hammers

1

Ya got several quality pinchy hammers there bud.

1
NovelChemist9439•

No drywall saw?

1
SenorMasterChefOP•

Oscillating tool is king

2
yourenotserious•

But… surely after three days you graduated residential and left for something better
