Coldplay could have very easily become an alt-rock band the likes of Radiohead.
I was listening to Coldplay's pre-parachutes stuff for the first time (blue room, brothers and sisters) and I was blown away by how different it was to even their first album. The chords were so wacky and the lyrics so strange and introspective and it kinda reminded me of Radiohead's first few albums.
What do you guys think? Would you have preferred if they made more music in that genre or style?

I love Radiohead, but Coldplay did what they wanted to do. I love all albums by both bands, so I'm glad we got what we did. I wouldn't trade albums like AHFOD or MOTS, Ghost Stories or Everyday Life for the world.
I’ve always been a devoted fan but I’d have to cross out AHFOD and MOTS.
I can understand and appreciate them going in whatever direction they wanted, but they definitely could have had better execution on those albums. Like way better lmao
AHFOD could have been really good, theres this fan edit of the full album called Wonderful Adventure (you can find it on Bandcamp) which made all the songs flow into each other and added radio sounds, callbacks to older songs and changed the tracklisting and production. If coldplay had released that it would have been in my top 4 coldplay albums.
