Dirt

Poem

You are the dirt
Beneath your feet
The Speaking
Breathing
Earth
Say something while you have the chance

This is beautiful. We forget that mankind is just as much a part of Earth as the trees, soil, mountains. Everyday we seem to be growing more and more disconnected from our natural state, and this poem effectively reminds us of that divide. This is an example of how you don't needs many words to convey an important message. Excellent writing!

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I like the ending, but I'm not sure how we can both be the dirt and have it under our feet. How does the earth speak? How do we know it breathes? I would like to see descriptive examples of these.

I like how you summed up something so huge into such a small poem, beautiful

As humans, we are in fact animals and lose focus on the small details. Like when we're children and find the smallest things so fasinating because everything is new. you would hyper-focus on the small things. It's refreshing to see this thank you for your post.

I really enjoyed reading this piece! In my perspective, as the reader, I find a great deal of emotion invoked in the way the rings well with the title. This is a very powerful piece, however, I feel like you can add more. In the great words of Paul Valery: “A Poem Is Never Finished, It is Only Abandoned.” I think that the more you condense the poem, the more abstract it becomes and allows the reader to spend more time contemplating your piece and it’s meaning. All together, it is a fabulous piece, and I hope to see your work around here more often!
