[2618] The Thorn King's Bride: Prologue

Dark Fantasy

Hey there! I'm hoping to get some feedback and be able to use it to further polish my prologue. The genre I'm going for is adult/dark fantasy with heavy medieval undertones since it's inspired by the reign of King Richard III.

Some of my main concerns going into this would be:

  1. Does the story hook you in from the beginning or does it take a while to get you?
  2. Does the story flow well throughout? If not, what are some of the snags that slowed it down?
  3. Does the dialogue detract or add to the immersion? I tried to play into some medievalisms while not going full out renaissance faire.
  4. Finally, does the prologue make you want to keep reading.

Also spoiler that might be pertinent to the reading once you're done:

!Siarlan, the POV character of this prologue is also one of three main characters for the rest of the book, so he doesn't actually die in the end. I know it's sort of a trope that fantasy novels begin with a POV chapter where the POV character dies in the end, so I wanted to play with that a little. !<

Again, thank you all so much and I look forward to any critiques you might have for me :D
