I have money but no knowledge...

I am after advice on my personal situation and also looking for resources on how to learn about finance starting from knowing nothing at all. I mean really nothing, yesterday I had to google what an ISA was. Does anyone recommend books or a youtube channel? My husband and I grew up very poor and investing money instead of keeping it tucked away has made us feel nervous and we have been avoiding doing anything with it. We are late 30's.

My husband and I have £130 000 in a savings account

A mortgage we took out 3 years ago for 480 000 and we have been paying 1600 per month on it.

I'm a stay at home parent and husband earns on average 5000 per month. Our outgoings are high and we usually end up spending most of that. We are kind of bad at budgeting because we see we have money and if we need or want something we have the ability to get it so we don't stick to it. We don't spend more than he earns but we have stopped saving most months.

We will find out shortly if we need to spend £30 000 on medical treatment later on in the year. (Will aim for June/ July)

I would like to start something for my toddler that can hopefully turn into something big later in life. (To travel after high school, go to university or even a house deposit in their 30's if that's possible)

We are too nervous for high risk investments I think, but I also don't really know what that means.

I really appreciate anyone who responds - thank you so much.

I would start with the wiki and the flowchart for this subreddit! Then post specific questions about each part.

I know what you mean about budgeting! I was the same way. What I did was go back and track my spending for the past year. It will give you an overview of where your money is going. It really helped me!

Budgeting for me now is less about limits and more about priorities. Yes I can spend £400 per month on takeaways etc, but does that fit in with my overall goals?

Good luck!

Imo idk y people want books. Just google what u don’t know and usually the first result will provide the best answer that’s the beauty of search engines!

Low risk fund in an isa? And a jisa for the kid.

In terms of budgeting get an app (any 5 star rated app) to input your expenses for a month. Review what you spend and cut out anything excessive and workout a budget and savings amount.

There’s no magic method to budgeting. If you truly want to save then you will
