Wanting to build or buy a small-ish chromecast-compatible bedroom sound system

Purchasing USA

I'd like to keep the cost for it under $100 or so. All the 'Chromecast built-in' stuff I'm seeing is either more expensive than I'm interested in or has poor/no reviews. If anyone knows of something that'd fit my needs, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm starting to consider rolling my own. I've got a G1 Chromecast laying around, I could get a cheapy HDMI audio extractor and run that to like a refurbished R980T set or similar. Or a mini-amp and one or both of the Boston HD-8s in my closet, but those are really bigger than I want to deal with. Thoughts?

You can still get new Chromecast audio off eBay for $49. I have two of them connected to kinter t-amps in my garage and kitchen. Dayton b652 speakers in the garage and little JVC cherry wood speakers in the kitchen.

Or have you considered two Google nest speakers in a stereo pair? I think they are around $60 each on sale

Extractor and cheap amp, use your hd8s.

I'm really starting to like that idea, with a kinter amp or something.

Except I got to looking at the SMSL AD18 and thinking it could do headphones, or my PC if I wanted to shuffle stuff around, and dammit I might have just blown up the budget.
