How much water do I add for a Mist Coat?

Painting

About to start painting rooms which are freshly plastered (once fully dry). I was thinking of using this paint for a mist coat: https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/johnstone-s-paint-matt-emulsion-brilliant-white-10l-219511

Could anyone kindly recommend the optimal % water I can mix with this paint for mist coating?

Also open to other suggestions if this paint is not suitable.

Many thanks

The best paint is Dulux trade, vinyl Matt (Pure brilliant white) which including the mist coat is able to paint most plastered surfaces fully with 2 coats.

I usually water it down about 60/40 or 70/30.

Thanks for the suggestion! Is it possible to use cheaper paint for the initial coat and something like this over the top or will that cause an issue? many thanks

You can use a cheaper paint but it may mean more work and worse finish etc

Is that 60% water or paint?

60 percent paint

Instructions for use on freshly plastered walls are always on the back of the tin so just follow those. It's usually 80/20. Tbh though that's retail paint and, as per the other post, I'd use trade paint. Retail paint is usually rubbish. Also a decorator.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll try and find somewhere selling trade paint nearby

no nonsense bare plaster paint

Thanks for the suggestion, did you water the paint down for first mist coat or just applied straight from bucket?

Straight from the bucket and I’ve painted the whole house now with emulsion and no problems. Saves messing around watering down paints and getting it wrong etc
