The Treasure
I’d have more freedom in a straight jacket
Than in your arms
Your hands on approach to my body is
To own the parts you can stomach
Waist and hips thighs and lips
Until my mouth opens
and you can see inside
the belly of a whale
A Whale of a time too many
And you’ll see the damage
done to erode my cave
And the many men who’ve stepped foot
never to return
Skull and bones left
dead to the repressed memory
Of a siren who lured with the wrong bait
Past explorers that could not find
the diamonds in the rough
Edges of fingernails chip at walls that close
in on both of us
Until I choke
And you’re not able
to see past the booby trap
And you’ve lost your head to me
once I gave you mine
You’ve pirated the contents of my mind
downloaded
All into a flash drive
which you’ve flushed
down the toilet
Where you find your reflection peering over
my remains
Which are lost at your convenience
Until you realize I’m an irreplaceable file/
And not a nut case or a brief-case
But a long time coming for you
And you can’t help
but drowning in the thoughts
And the thot you tried to suppress
Like a depressant I’m an alcoholic beverage
That you drink on weekends
Only to swear you’d never do me again
And then rinse your sorrows and repeat
Only to give me a
message in the bottle half empty
And it isn’t a pretty one
