The victim blaming and wild narratives surrounding this woman since the first day have been pathetic, honestly.

The RCMP have failed Nova Scotians multiple ways throughout this, including apparently failing to properly act on multiple neighbours reporting the abuse in this household.

Obviously, she shouldn’t simply be written off as a battered spouse and needed to be extensively interviewed as she has been. But she came out of the woods that night with verifiable injuries (broken bones) and while she’s fortunate not to have been killed, the fact that she escaped with her life only seems to have fuelled the shallow-thinking “blood on her hands!” peanut gallery who refuse to acknowledge the added context of extensive domestic violence in this scenario.

Dropping this relatively minor charge allows her to speak more freely, and she’s the one who potentially has more information about the onset of this tragedy than anyone. Aside from the accusations and theories, I’d hope the people who are outraged by this headline can step back and see the value trade-off here.
