I get irritable when things don’t go as planned

I really don’t know why, it could be an ADHD, OCD or anxiety related issue but whenever plans don’t go accordingly, I find that I get really mopey and brood about it. I catastrophize things in my head a lot so whenever minor inconveniences come along (say, someone’s running late) I’m pretty much in my head like “welp, plans are fucking ruined now and I want to go home.” Doesn’t anybody else deal with this and know how to chill the fuck out? I have to try really hard to hide it when with my partner but even she can tell when I’m being pouty lol

I’m the same way man, you’re not alone. Honestly when this happens I just try my best to think about all the possible solutions about why someone would be running late. But usually after awhile I just get pissed off lmao

Yep can definitely agree with that, a few days ago I was meant to hear from a friend to catch up and just heard absolutely nothing from them and out of anger I've been ignoring their pathetic attempt at initiating conversation with me, probably a very childish attitude towards it but it really annoyed me

I feel like that’s a pretty valid response tho. People these days, especially friends are way to comfortable going ghost and it shows a major lack of respect for our time by doing that shit. I’ve distanced myself from friends for doing similar things because it’s like hey man, I value you and i value my time and I set aside a chunk of my time for you, was probably looking forward to spending this time with you and had plans to honor that commitment we both agreed on. And you can’t do so much as shoot me a fucking text? It really is the bare minimum

Exactly! Thank you nice to know that I'm not the only one who sees it that way

This 🙌 I give them 5 minutes extra. No text, no presence, I leave. They can get as angry as they want, my time, my decision how to spend it; I was there by the time we agreed, you were not? Your problem, not mine. Other thing is if they text me that sth has happened and they are being late. But them being disrespectful? No way.

Has this been going on your whole life or did this come on recently?

Probably more recently, throughout my mid twenties

LPT: Know at what point to stop planning.

When I make plans to go on vacation I plan where/when I am going, what to bring, and where I am staying and nothing else. When it is my birthday I plan the day off work and nothing else.

If you have no plans for what will happen, then nothing gets broken by unexpected events. In fact those unexpected events become part of the experience.

You are just setting for yourself an expectation and, as well, your expected appreciation of how things will go. Truth is, even if they went perfectly according to plan, you'd just be disappointed that you knew how everything would play out (much like spoilers for a movie ruin the movie). Reality is that nothing goes precisely according to plan.

I think, by this posting, you realize you are your own worst enemy in this regard. This is a good realization. You are also the only one that can change this way of seeing the world. You're already halfway there to solving it. A lot of other people would just blame everyone and everything else instead.

Yup. I feel that. I'm supposed to be pulling the engine out of my car. Spent a week organising and planning with my Dad on how we're gonna set the car up. I woke up so excited to get started but when I got to my Dad's place he completely changed the plan we had talked about to the point I just wanted to go back to bed. Pretty much ruined a beautiful Sunday. Last minute changes throw me for a loop. My brother flys by the seat of his pants for everything. I need structure.

Yes I feel like this as well!! If it’s a plan I feel angry when it doesn’t happen. I feel like I put this plan above everything else. So when it gets ruined or doesn’t happen it’s frustrating
