I just walked past Death

Poem

I just walked past Death

She had no face, well, none visible to me

I noticed her at a distance - lurking by the door - waiting

I could tell she wore something like a dress - the long kind

For a moment I thought she was a nun

Adrenaline rushed as I realized this was not a holy sight, but the embodiment of Death

All at once, she turned towards me and briskly left from the door

She held her head high - without a step of hesitation

And began her way towards me

I knew

I just knew she desired my attention

My body was hers

My eyes were hers

Yet, in as much as I wanted to look Death in her eyes, I sheepishly looked away

I, for that reason, did not see the look on her face

And I hope I never will

One thing is for certain:

I avoided Death today.
