Dark gray couch

We bought our first house and it is totally a blank slate. We’re getting used furniture as much as possible to save money. We ended up getting a dark gray couch from a family friend and I’m not sure exactly what color curtains to get for the living room. I have zero eye for this kind of stuff. I’m worried the dark gray will make the room feel .. heavy?

Would you go for a neutral solid color?

Here are some pictures of couch and space. The room pictures are staged from the real estate listing.

I would also remove the existing pillows and add white and navy accent pillows. Will brighten up the space and add contrast.

I honestly like it. I’d remove the big striped pillows. It would make it more clean.

What kind of curtains do you need? If you’re trying to keep looky loos out or sunlight or what? It looks nice without curtains, but you could do some blinds, maybe like bamboo blinds or something? If you want specifically curtains I’d just do a sheer white or neutral. If you need light blocking ones I’d probably stick with the same. A natural color. Are those chairs yours? I now realize probably not, but I do like the blue as the accent chairs. So, since they’re not yours maybe search for some that are a deep color to give a little mood to the space. I personally always want to try to fun curtains/dark curtains/patterned, but always always hate it and end up just going back to neutral ones lol. You may be different, but this is my opinion 😅

I would choose an off white color curtain to liven up the room and contrast with the dark grey couch. If you are not looking for blackout curtains, and want to let light in, sheer curtains would look great. I would also replace the solid gray pillows with off white pillows.
