TM off Frustration, evolve on Sunday for Hydro Cannon

64
areyoutellingme•

What’s happening on Sunday??

1†
King-Mugs•

Mudkip CD. Evolving during the CD (and maybe a little after?) then you if swampert knows Hydro Cannon

In my non-expert opinion...

TM away frustration while you can. Then either wait for an opportunity to evolve it with hydrocannon, or give it Surf, then use it for raids or rocket battles.

Purified might be decent for pvp, but I'm sure there are better options.

OP has the luckiest timing ever. Catches it during TM event and a few days before evo event

unevenvenue•

It seems planned by Niantic to get a ton of people out and searching for Mudkips. I've caught 7 and none are good IVs for PVP, but I've TMed them all anyway because of the Mudkip CD

2
DweadPiwateWawbuts•

I’ve only gotten a marshstomp so far in this event! But I already have good ones for PvP and PvE so I’m not worried.

1
KeyFan3917OP•

Your comment made me lean more towards shadow. It really is perfect timing, ty.

2
ohboyyyyme•

3* shadow swampert is S+ pve water dps, and is useful in some master league cups

4* is only useful for mega and collection

5
Icy_Laprrrras:southwest: USA - Southwest•

Regular ol Swampert is quite solid in ML tho, that’s something to consider. And I’m pretty sure the mega will out DPS Shadow Swampert in raids as well

10
NarutoSakura1Maryland•

Actually Mega Swampert becomes the top Water DPS, only outclassed by Primal Kyogre

4
bjb406•

and pvp. Its much more interesting to get the best pvp pokemon than it is pve, because pve is trivial. You can do any raid with any lvl 30+ pokemon with super effective. And with pve you are better off with megas anyway.

1

4* is useful in master league

1
DGIce•

You are more likely to get a perfect than another high shadow. Just wait until you are about to mega evolve your first swampert and decide whether to purify at that time nased on whether you have another perfect. But you can power it up now.

5

Don’t power it up now - might be a waste of candy and dust. Evolve it on Sunday.

4
DGIce•

Such a strong shadow won't be a waste of dust unless your are extremely lucky.

4
Efreet0•

ML shadow is an huge investment with little benefit compared to standard.
Personally I would purify for the hundo.

3†
MathProfGeneva:northeast: USA - Northeast•

"little benefit" ...uh shadow swampert is best non mega water attacker so I don't think that phrase is accurate.

11
Efreet0•

The thing is that most "hard" PVE encounters requires a party + multiple people so powering up a million shadow pokes is not really cost efficient, also .. water is not exactly the most useful type for stuff people actually want to farm.

If we speak from a whale standpoint then yes... the cost is nothing and you get an ultra specific attacker but most people don't exactly throw millions dust away to grind a little faster pve encounters.

1
Icy_Laprrrras:southwest: USA - Southwest•

Depends.

If you purify it, you can use it in ML (Shadow Swampert is bad in ML, but reg Swampert is pretty solid), and it would be good in raids, but not as good as the shadow would be. Your choice.

2
StardustOasisCentral Bedfordshire•

How does Swampert compare for ML & MLC? I've got one 100% at level 40 currently, and another 100% Mudkip to evolve on Sunday. Is it worth pushing one to level 50? I should have the XL candy after Sunday for at least one.

1
Icy_Laprrrras:southwest: USA - Southwest•

It’s up to you, but if it isn’t too much trouble I think it’s actually quite worth it

1
StardustOasisCentral Bedfordshire•

I'll have the resources for it after Sunday, I'll add it to my power up list then.

2
Peski92•

Is it really? Swampert is glassy anyway, does it make that much difference? Caught myself a 14 15 13 one and am really struggling on this decision here.

0
galeongirl•

You could always TM away Frustration, evolve sunday for HC and then consider purifying once the Mega is released for a Mega Hundo Mudbro.

4
rbhfd:europewest: Western Europe•

Purifying would replace HC with Return though.

2
cheersdom•

i thought Return only takes the place of Frustration?

0
galeongirl•

Only Frustration does that. Return won't appear if you have HC, only if Frustration is there it will take priority.

Icy_Laprrrras:southwest: USA - Southwest•

Swampert isn’t actually that glassy. It’s below average bulk but not too far under the median imo

Shadow Swampert is definitely glassy tho, and Swampert already dosen’t have the best stats to compete in ML.

2
Peski92•

I never play ML as I am not a hardcore gamer and free to play. I know about the ML meta and always wondered why there is basically no Swampert in ML considering the lot of Steels.

Really thought the Shadow would be better, I do not like to purify those close to 4* pokemon so far.

Still have Hitmonlee, Nidoran m, Teddiursa, makuhita, starly, hippopotas, Larvitar, rattata, skorupi, vulpix, 2x shuckle, crobat. Thought all these would be better shadow

1
Icy_Laprrrras:southwest: USA - Southwest•

Yeah, mons of those sound worth purifying.

Swampert dosen’t see too much use in ML because it’s stats do start to fall off that high up, but its insane Water/Ground typing and amazing moveset remains. Helps that there are basically no Grass types in ML besides the rare Zarude.

1
DaddyOhMy•

Sheesh, I was coming here to basically ask the same thing. I caught a 98% IV Shadow Mudkip yesterday and was wondering if I am better off TMing away frustration and going for a Shadow Swampert for ML or purifying it for the hundo. PVPoke has them both pretty close to each other. So far though, it looks like the consensus is to purify it. And, just to confirm, if I do purify it, I'll get Hydro Attack in place of Return, correct?

2
DweadPiwateWawbuts•

Personally I’d leave it as a shadow. Shadow 98s are harder to come by than normal hundos. Itll be useful in some PVE situations.

It you purify you’ll get Return. You need to evolve during Community Day classic hours to get Hydro Cannon

5

Sounds like the correct order is: purify now, then evolve on Sunday. If you tm away frustration, then evolve on Sunday, then purify you will lose HC to Return.

Edit: sounds like you actually need to purify, then to away return, then evolve on Sunday for HC

Power it up to level 50.

Yeah, they are at a crossroad about purifying or not so they want others opinion to ease the decision as there is a time limit

Purify for a hundo. Your heart wont allow investing on a 13 attack and bad iv swampert

You’ll have to TM away from return before you evolve to a Swampert. Otherwise Return will hold the slot (I think?)

1†
SheriffHeckTate•

Nope, Return will change into another move through evolution. Frustration is the only one that doesnt.

Edit: Correction: I am mistaken according to Google. Return DOES stick around after evolution.

3
086341•

Does that only apply to community day moves? To test I just purified a houndour to get return, and it evolved into a Houndoom with return. The move didn’t change.

2
SheriffHeckTate•

I Googled it after reading your post and apparently I am incorrect. Could have sworn it did leave. Maybe it changed at some point?

1
DweadPiwateWawbuts•

I think you were right the first time, with the caveat that it only changes on evolution during events like community days, which is what this question is about.

https://twitter.com/NianticHelp/status/1172625173503082496?s=20&t=NIJI_h2uIrvJqgRNg6GbIQ

That said, I’d change it before CD just in case

2
SheriffHeckTate•

That said, I’d change it before CD just in case

Agreed. Better to waste a regular TM now than to need an Elite one later.

1
bjb406•

It is the top non-mega water attacker, but its better in master league as normal anyway, I would definitely purify. But It depends on if you have other good shadows of this line, and if you already have a hundo. It is likely easier to get a shadow with 15 attack than it is a hundo.
