Republicans of Reddit, who benefits from NOT teaching children about LGBT people? And how specifically is teaching kids about LGBT people detrimental? And to whom is it detrimental?

I'm not a republican, but I think the main gripe is the age group that's being discussed. Sex education, gender discussion, and the various health and wellness aspects of these topics aren't considered to be suitable for kids for whom "Stop picking your nose" is still a tough concept to grasp.
There are certain topics that minds in various stages of development simply cannot process. In my humble opinion, there needs to exist a level of maturity in the target audience for certain subjects before they can be appropriately discussed if there's to be any value to the education. Let's get the little booger-eaters past the "I wet my pants" stage before we start talking about such weighty and important matters as sexual identification.
You're going to get downvoted for your honesty, but I tend to agree with what you said.
When my daughter was in kindergarten, we happened to meet ... I don't care what term you use ... a man dressing as a woman. She of course asked me about it, and I told her plainly, that different people feel differently about what kind of clothes they want to wear. There's nothing right or wrong about it.
"Some days you like your blue overalls, and other days you like your pink dress, right? It's the same for grownups. Some people like wearing dresses, some people like wearing blue jeans. Some people like both on different days."
And she accepted that and we moved on. She was talking about puppies within 30 seconds. There was no need to go into anything deeper at that time.
I just don't know why there's an "All or nothing" approach to the matter. If people are getting pissed at me for saying "wait a bit" - do they also advocate teaching calculus in 2nd grade? Why are we not teaching driver's education to 4th graders? We're trying to throw WAY too much at our kids at so young an age, I'm really starting to wonder if burdening them with a massive amount of stuff before they're mentally developed enough handle is directly contributing to the rise of mental illness cases in this nation. Expecting 6 year olds to understand the difference between pansexual, transgendered, gay, gender fluid and so on so forth is just insane. I'm not saying DON'T teach these things- because - like it or not, its relevant to today's world...but come on. There's no reason to force it to happen before these kids have even quit worrying about cooties. As for downvotes? Let it happen. I like the idea that someone's uncomfortable with what I have to say.
Sadly, your finer points don't matter to a lot of people. Anything that stifles any kind of discussion, regardless of the details or reasons, is tantamount to being a Nazi, to some.
Agreed. And this has led to a tendency to not voice any opinions at all that are divergent from what we're being told is right. Civil Discourse is dead- mostly because people are afraid to be labeled unfairly...that and nobody is willing to confront the possibility that they've made a mistake somewhere. This is why it's just easier to dehumanize and dismiss anyone that disagrees with us. If we do that, we don't have to engage them. If we don't have to engage them, we don't have to face the idea that we might be wrong. I'm going to continue to argue against the teaching of such a subject as this to lower level elementary school kids- while at the same time teaching my own sons that NOBODY needs to be treated differently because of the specifics of their personal lives. The possibility of doing both is really baffling to some people.
I doubt anyone is...
That depends what you want to teach them.
If you're teaching them that being LGBT is no different to being straight and that being LGBT is rainbows and hugs? Then you're not telling them the truth and you need to back off.
Are you going to teach them that 75% of lesbians report being abused by their partner? That 20% of gay men have sex for the first time before the age of 13 and usually with a much older adult partner? That gay men on average have far more sexual partners than straight men and are much more likely to carry diseases? That LGBT people have far higher rates of mental illness?
I am LGBT and I'm absolutely against teaching the sanitized, unicorns and rainbows version of LGBT life which is forced in the media in an effort to find recruits. That is not the reality for most LGBT people and we shouldn't be teaching it to anyone.
I hope you're able to appreciate how many people you're going to send into an apoplectic fit with this comment.
Man... someone visited catholictalkingpoints.org and made use of their ✂️ paste options. You got links to your stats or ?
Not republican. But teaching them some things about the LGBT is fine. The problem I have is that school is to inform children on the world and other things contributing to their future job (this is my opinion).
So I feel teaching young individuals about things that you can’t scientifically support (along with things that are true) is a bad thing and to do. This is because when they grow up, they will have to be informed that they are scientifically wrong(on some issues) and they might not accept that. This will carry over into voting and other fields.
So in my opinion, teach them things that everyone can agree is true is the only thing you should teach in schools. After that they should decide to follow up on the topic after school if they are interested.
Such a small amount of the population is LGBT, so why make it so important for children?
That’s my thoughts on the matter I suppose.

What things about gay people are scientifically unsupported?
The LGBT have more then just gay people. I’m more referring to transgender issues that aren’t yet scientifically supported.
transgender issues that aren’t yet scientifically supported.
Like what?
For example:
A family member of mine told me that they are learning about how it is fine to transition from a man to being a woman, and then they go on to say it’s fine to compete in that gender’s sport because you are now a woman.
I believe if a grown person says “I want to be a woman “, then they can. But teaching children that person is now 100% a woman , to the level that they can complete in their sport, then that’s a problem to me.
What goes through people's minds when they want to talk to little kids about fucking and sucking dicks. I didn't want some pedo with his dick hard trying to talk to me about sex when I was a kid.
Your ignorant and embarrassing comment is exactly why we need to educate children on LGBT people.
Thanks for helping out.

Lmfao.
Embarrassing troglodytes like this are literally the reason to teach kids about LGBT people.
Again, thanks for helping out dumbass.
Lol pedo
I’m sorry you went through that. Peace to you
“Why does Sally have two dads?”
“Some dudes like other dudes instead of chicks”
I don’t think many would condone teaching little kids about sexual positions/acts.
Also, everyone wants to focus on little kids when the bill is for k-12. Can’t even bring it up or answer questions from high schoolers.
Also, also, the internet exists, you ain’t shielding kids from a damn thing.
The LGBT educational question is not about right and wrong, or even education, it is about garnering political power.
Unless you're teaching about the world as it actually is rather than a dogmatic fantasy about how it should be.
Or some idyllic vision of the past.
