"restless spine of a thing" is heat. I liked that phrasing. I liked the casual conversation vibe of the poem too. The language is direct. The loneliness and hurt is blunt and loud. The use of ordering breakfast and being overwhelmed by the options is a relatable and grounded point of entry into those feelings. The beginning felt a little confusing, but once you got moving, I was able to follow. at broken mirror in your bathroom, I’ll drink to that" is another line that stood out to me.

Yes i agree it is confusing. It's about roommates who fell in love. So they still see and share the living together normalcy - but it's too strong and seeing each other even just for breakfast is too complicated because of the confusion since it's there. But too many 3rd parties haha in a sense
honesty maybe the vibe anyway - so it's why it came out like that? Maybe.
