Limerence

Poem

Dear nameless, I love you
Or whatever you represent
Maybe a hole in me
The lack of perfection I resent

About you I know nothing
No more than your face
While the reality behind it
Has yet to fall into place

But for now I’m happy
Ignorant in my love
As you still seem an angel
My imagination’s dove

Tomorrow the curtains may open
Revealing the harsh light of day
As truth enters the room
At your beauty’s dismay

But for now the moon remains
Fixed forever in the sky
Darkness surrounds me
The only light, your lie

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Really nice emotion, I personally felt it. The feeling of knowing someone so little really embodies the phrase ignorance is bliss. You know they can't be perfect, but you don't want to know their imperfections.

It's the feeling when someone brings a light into your life, you desperately don't want to let go, holding on hard as it runs away.

This is potent! These are all really strong lines. My first read I really loved "my imagination's dove". And on the second I registered the last two lines "the only light, your lie". Really rolls off the tongue with all those L's.

Alliterative, subtle rhyme scheme, very strong structure, and imagery. Subject matter is relatable. I frequently "lie" to myself, thinking of the one that might be mine.

This is very successful and great work!

One thing I would change, is "into" to "in" in the line "Has yet to fall into place". I subconsciously ommited the "-to" both times, but that really down to the minutia. Seriously, this is great!

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, I could've looked through it a bit longer - thanks for pointing that out (even if small). I'll change that for the future.

This is beautiful! I love the rhyming and this poem it rlly speaks to me. It makes me think of that high-school crush. Your still ignorant in life and the person. It's like you imagine this person being something inside your head. Only to realize that's a fantasy.
