Search bar seems to be lagging behind searches

💻 Help

I've recently encountered an issue with the Firefox search bar where whenever I type in something to search, the search bar sometimes freezes and doesn't take in input; sometimes it will display that input but when I click Enter to search, it only displays a small part of the query (like, for example, "places to visit in ..." would end up searching for "pla" or "plac"), and then sometimes it just won't take in any other input beyond those few characters. The freeze happens for several seconds, after which the rest of the search term appears on the search bar, but when I look up my RAM/CPU usage nothing is overloaded and I can swap to and use other tabs normally. Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

This started happening to me too in one of the last few updates

Yeah, it happens to me too on Android, but not on my other devices. I use DuckDuckGo as the default search engine.

Is it easily reproducible?

Nope, it just started appearing randomly a few days ago and there’s nothing specific that makes this happen — however, I’ve noticed that after it happens, it does tend to work as normal for any subsequent searches for a while

Can confirm that I also had this problem and I also couldn't reproduce it. It's been a while since it last happened, mostly when Firefox was just booting up, many times I wrote "localhost:[PORT]", and everytime it ended up looking for "localhost:" in Google. It might have something to do with name resolution or something idk

Do you have a high refresh rate display? Does it still happen if you set it to 60Hz? Does it still happen with the latest Nightly test build?

I have the same issue and a 120Hz monitor, but it still happened at 60Hz

Damn, I have the same issue that I posted here right now.

Hmm maybe it might have to do with extensions? We have a few in common, like the facebook container one, return youtube dislike, and either one of Greasemonkey or Violentmonkey (not sure and I can’t check rn but I think its the first). Maybe try disabling them one by one to see if it’s one of these causing the issue?

I have disabled all add-ons and it still happens
