Partners work closing for refurbishment (Scotland)

Employment

So just a quick question regarding my partners workplace. In around a month or so, her workplace is closing for 2 weeks due to some refurbishment/something to do with testing the power in the building. This is going to result in her workplace being closed for 2 weeks.

Now the issue I have is they are being told that this two weeks will be unpaid unless they use their holiday days. Most of the staff are paid by the hour but have contracts for a set amount of hours each week etc and they are being told this is the same for salaried management (which I personally think is likely bs to try make it sound like they are all in the same boat).

Can the company legally do this? As I feel that since this is no fault of the staff, they are losing out half a month's pay the company shouldn't be able to do this? It's not like the staff are refusing to work or anything and losing out two weeks pay or two weeks pto is a pretty big deal for some. Or is this one of those situations where the company can do what they want and you just have to deal with it?

Does your partner’s contract allow for unpaid or reduced pay lay-offs?

If it does, then they may be entitled to guaranteed pay

Best thing to do would be to speak to ACAS Scotland with all the info.
