SRAM Butter in a DT Freehub?

Hi all, I have a DT240 with the 54T ratchet that I'd like to quiet down just a bit. The special DT grease is really loud and I wouldn't mind quieting it down just a touch. I have a couple different greases on hand, but SRAM butter seems like it wouldn't be a whole lot thicker, maybe just enough. Anyone tried it? Any reason I shouldn't?

I use Dumonde-Tech Pro-X Freehub Grease in the shop for ratchet systems, but if that's not available I have used slick honey.

I wouldn't be incredibly worried about using SRAM butter, I would try it out!

FYI Sram butter and slick honey are both the same thing, repackaged Slickoleum that can be purchased directly for much cheaper.

Doesn't work well. If you do, use a very thin coat. Don't 'pack' it like a bearing. It's just thick enough to hinder return of the spring, and will skip under power.

EDIT: On consideration, this wasn't a problem with the 1990's Hugi hubs. I think the springs used to be stronger. I used to pack mine with Park bearing grease, no problem. But the noise was more pronounced. It was known as the 'Hugi Howl' back then.

When you say it doesn't work well, do you mean on EXP hubs?

Any ratchet-type system.

I see, so you're saying the original star ratchet design from Hugi was using a stronger spring.

Yes, and quite a bit louder. :)

I pour some float fluid in my dt swiss 3 pawl (370?) hubs, a silent buzz that can’t be heard when riding.
