Best covers that the Foos performed?

Discussion

A couple of my favourites are Band on the Run (DG at the White House version is great) and You're So Vain at the Grammys in 2008.

Hit me with other recommendations I can hunt out!

Baker Street for sure. It’s better than the original. Same with Darling Nikki

Foos are beyond compare but let's not say insane things like the Baker Street cover is better. it's simply not true.

my fave fave is "maybe Im amazed"when dave and nora jones did it in honor of Paul M. Its my fave because when I first heard it, it reminded me of my husband. One day while we were both in the car and i played it for him. And he reached over and grabbed my hand as Dave sang. Awww..... But my other fave fave is "rock and roll" that the foo did at wimbley. Dave has the biggest grin on his face while he plays the drums and Taylor kills it with the vocals. If you listen to that you have to listen when all the foos got to do it for the kennedy center honors. chris does an amazing job and that made me listen for him more on foos stuff and look at him more.

I hadn't seen/heard the You're So Vain cover - it was great!

In terms of recordings, I love Kiss the Bottle, Chris is great on vocals. The whole Dee Gees EP was so much unexpected fun, but I think my favourite was Tragedy.

Live, anything Taylor took the lead on was usually great: In The Flesh?, Stay With Me, any of the Queen covers, like Tie Your Mother Down, Under Pressure, Somebody to Love.

Then there was the cover of a cover, Young Man Blues.

The guys have always just been huge fans of music themselves, so whenever they've played someone else's song that's shone through.

I wasn't aware of the in the flesh? cover and just saw that they performed it with Waters himself! I'm in awe

To be honest I had forgotten about that performance, but you're right, so good! I was thinking of when they did it during the actual Wasting Light tour, with Taylor singing.

When going live, dave used to do this schtick where he pretended to forget the words.

Stairway to Heaven on Late Late Show with Kilborn. Not sure when this was but the show ended on 2004 so it's at least 18 years old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2WMK4IKaKM

Foos also used to cover Carry On My Wayward Son. I have an mp3 somewhere from when Dave claimed to have forgotten the words and pulled a fan up on stage to sing.

I was at the show! Milwaukee...1997 I think. Free show outside at the Harley Davison stage at Summerfest. The guy who sang did an amazing stage dive back into the crowd when he finished. Wild show!!

That's awesome! I wish there was video.

The Foos played "In the Flesh?" by Pink Floyd at MSG on the Wasting Light tour, with Taylor on vocals. Absolutely incredible. I genuinely felt nothing like that at a concert before or since. That riff is so damn heavy.

Same show they played "Bad Reputation" with Joan Jett. Also amazing.

Breakdown, Under My Wheels, In the Flesh. People always say that they don’t like the cover part of the shows but I’ve always loved it. I saw Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers earlier the same year I saw Foo and they didn’t play my favourite song. Sure enough Foo did! A tour or two later cover time again and one month later I got to hear Under My Wheels live again because it was Shiflett’s song this time around. It was fantastic! They tend to do great covers. DeeGees was fantastic (my mom was so confused when shadow dancing came on “who is this?! It’s not Andy Gibb. It’s pretty good.”).
