your memory

Poem

you were a fairytale a delicate scented flower that grounded me with your ever so resilient roots and i was the earth beneath you, or so i thought but now thats where your memory lies on the tip of my tongue on the edges of insanity and in a windowless home- a home that requires a million witnesses to be called "home"

Beautifully written. Not sure I understand all of it but please don't explain it to me. I like when poetry keeps me guessing.

I like the image of a flower, delicate and beautiful, having roots strong and resilient enough to ground the earth, the narrator, beneath it. Continuing on from that, perhaps the fragility of the flower was the reason for its subsequent absence as I interpreted from the poem ("thats where your memory lies on the tip of my tongue[...]").

The image of the windowless home, and the notion that the home "needs a million witnesses to be called 'home'" threw me off a bit. I am not sure what this (especially the latter half, about the witness) has to do with the beginning of the poem, but I think a bit more elaboration and context would help.

About the witness part, yeah it doesnt fit in that well in english i guess.I am turkish and we have this saying where when something just isnt true even if a million witnesses testify it wont become valid its a little weird to explain but yeah i guess i cant supress thinking in turkish sometimes it just happens.Thankyou so much for the comment though i appreciate it:))

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.
