I've been tinkering with a Vertex K8400 at school and need more help fixing the print.

Fix My Print

Hey, I need some assistance with calibration of a 3D printer at my school, it has been unused for a few years and is in need of some TLC. It's a Vertex K8400 Dual.

I printed a X-Y-Z cube and the pictures are below.

Print settings: 0.2mm, PLC at 200°C and 120 mm/s print move speed. Print speed is 60 mm/s

Y

Looks like you’re printing too fast for sure try printing at like 50mm/s

I'll try that now and see how it goes.

Hello u/Postkassi,

As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the Simplify3D picture guide. Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post.

Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem.

  • Printer & Slicer
  • Filament Material and Brand
  • Nozzle and Bed Temperature
  • Print Speed
  • Nozzle Retraction Settings

^Additional ^settings ^or ^relevant ^information ^is ^always ^encouraged.

Calibrate your e steps if you have not. The top looks like the nozzle is dragging through the surface and the texture looks very similar to issues I had recently before calibrating my extruder.

Ringing is horrible, maybe make sure everything is tight and the printer is on a stable base. Also clean your nozzle😂

Make sure everything is tight. Belts, screws, etc. Follow the standard calibration tutorials. Reprint and come back if issues still exist.

Also, the k8400 is not the best at part cooling (trust me, I’ve got 2 of these printers), so printing at 200C could also help a bit with the dropping lines in the overhangs of the X and Y. With the suggested speed reduction the ringing could go down as well.
